2008–09 FC Vaslui Season
The 2008–09 season is FC Vaslui's 7th season of its existence, and its 4th in a row, in Liga I. Because it finished 7th, FC Vaslui played on UEFA Intertoto Cup in the third round. FC Vaslui passed by Neftchi Baku, and it qualified for the 3rd preliminary round of UEFA Cup. In the play-off, it was eliminated by Slavia Prague, because of the away goal rule, being the only Romanian team, who was eliminated, without losing in UEFA Cup that season. In the championship, they started perfectly, after a 1–0 win against FC Steaua București and a 3–1 win against arch rivals FC Politehnica Iaşi (1945), Poli Iaşi. But because of the injuries, the team results began to be poor. After a 1–1 draw with CS Gaz Metan Mediaş, Gaz Metan Mediaş, Viorel Hizo was dismissed, and Viorel Moldovan was named the new coach. FC Vaslui
CS Sporting Juniorul Vaslui (), commonly known as Sporting Vaslui, Juniorul Vaslui or simply as Vaslui, is a Romanian professional football club based in Vaslui, Vaslui County, founded in 2002 and re-founded in 2014. The club is currently playing in the Liga II and the official club colours are yellow and green, hence the nickname "the Yellow and Greens". The club is currently owned by CS Sporting Juniorul Vaslui and FC Vaslui Supporters Association and has the legal right to use ''FC Vaslui Brand''. The club was founded in 2002 as ''Fotbal Club Vaslui'' and became one of the most prominent football clubs in the country after its promotion to the Liga I, three years later. UEFA Intertoto Cup
The UEFA Intertoto Cup (from la, Inter, 'between' + german: toto, 'betting pool'),Most precisely, from (football pool); cf. often abbreviated and more known in the German-speaking world as UI Cup and originally called the International Football Cup, was a summer football competition. The competition was discontinued after the 2008 tournament. Teams who originally would have entered the Intertoto Cup now directly enter the qualifying stages of the UEFA Europa League from this point. The tournament was founded in 1961–62, but was only taken over by UEFA in 1995. Initially, the tournament ended with a single champion, who received the Intertoto Cup. Starting in 1967, the tournament ended with a number of group winners (7 to 14 winners, see below), who received cash prizes. Serge Akakpo
Serge Ognadon Akakpo (born 15 October 1987) is a Togolese footballer who played as a centre-back. Career Club Akakpo began his career with Auxerre after breaking through the youth academy, he made his first-team debut with Auxerre in July 2007. Akakpo left Auxerre on a free transfer in January 2009 and moved to Liga I team Vaslui in Romania on a lucrative deal. He subsequently had spells with Celje and Žilina in Slovenia and Slovakia respectively. In 2014, Akakpo joined Ukrainian club FC Hoverla Uzhhorod. He made 30 Premier League appearances for Hoverla before leaving. Dorian Andronic (born 16 October 1989) is a Romanian former football player. He started as a center back at Cetatea Suceava when he was 16 years old. In the winter of 2007 he was bought by SC Vaslui. He made his debut in Liga I in a 1–0 victory against FC Steaua București. He scored his first goal against FC Timişoara in the 2007/2008 season. Paul Papp (born 11 November 1989) is a Romanian footballer who plays as a centre-back or right-back for Liga I club CS Universitatea Craiova. Dušan Kuciak (; born 21 May 1985) is a Slovak professional footballer who plays as a goalkeeper for Polish club Lechia Gdańsk and the Slovakia national team.
