2008–09 Cypriot Fourth Division
The 2008–09 Cypriot Fourth Division was the 24th season of the Cypriot fourth-level football league. Achyronas Liopetriou won their 3rd title. Format Fourteen teams participated in the 2008–09 Cypriot Fourth Division. All teams played against each other twice, once at their home and once away. The team with the most points at the end of the season crowned champions. The first three teams were promoted to the 2009–10 Cypriot Third Division and the last three teams were relegated to regional leagues. Cypriot Fourth Division
The Cypriot Fourth Division ( el, Τέταρτη Κατηγορία) was the fourth tier association football, football league competition in Cyprus, ran by the Cyprus Football Association. Each year, the top finishing teams of the league were promoted to the Cypriot Third Division, and the lowest finishing teams were relegated to the amateur leagues. History The Cypriot Fourth Division started the 1985–86 football season as the fourth level of the Cypriot football. The decision was taken by CFA on 23 July 1985. The first eight seasons the championship was split into three or four geographical groups, representing the Districts of Cyprus. Cyprus Football Association
The Cyprus Football Association (CFA; el, Κυπριακή Ομοσπονδία Ποδοσφαίρου (ΚΟΠ), Kypriakí Omospondía Podosfaírou (KOP)) is the governing body of football in Cyprus and is based in Nicosia. It organizes the football championships, whose top league is the Cypriot First Division. It also organizes the Cypriot Cup, the Cypriot Super Cup and the Cypriot national football team. Cyprus Football Association is also responsible for organizing all the futsal competitions, like the Cypriot Futsal league, the Cypriot Futsal Cup and the Cypriot Futsal Super Cup. 2008–09 Cypriot Cup For Lower Divisions
The 2008–09 Cypriot Cup for lower divisions was the 1st edition of the Cypriot Cup for lower divisions. A total of 19 clubs entered the competition. It began on 11 October 2008 with the first round and concluded on 29 March 2009 with the final which was held at Dasaki Stadium. Elpida won their 1st cup trophy after beating Digenis 2–1 in the final. Format Only teams from the Cypriot Third Division and Cypriot Fourth Division could participate. Participation was not compulsory. 19 of 28 participated that season. The competition consisted of five rounds. In the first and in the second round each tie was played as a single leg and was held at the home ground of the one of the two teams, according to the draw results. 2008–09 Cypriot First Division
The 2008–09 Cypriot First Division was the seventy season of top-tier football on Cyprus. It started on 30 August 2008 and ended on 10 May 2009. The defending champions were Anorthosis. APOEL won the championship three matchweeks before the end of the season. This year, for the second time, the championship also featured a group stage play-off system. Teams were divided into 3 groups: 1st–4th, 5th–8th and 9th–12th. Points from the main part of the season still counted. Format Fourteen teams participated in the 2008–09 Cypriot First Division. Away Goals Rule
The away goals rule is a method of tiebreaker, tiebreaking in association football and other sports when teams play each other twice, once at each team's home ground. Under the away goals rule, if the total goals scored by each team are equal, the team that has scored more goals "Road (sports), away from home" wins. ASPIS Pylas
Pyla (; ) is a village in Larnaca District, Cyprus. It is one of only four villages located within the United Nations Buffer Zone, the other three being Athienou, Troulloi and Deneia. Pyla is located in the eastern part of the island, adjacent to the British Sovereign Base Area of Dhekelia. From a legal point of view, it is administered as all other areas controlled by the government of the Republic of Cyprus, but policed by UN peacekeepers. Episkopi ( el, Επισκοπή, tr, Piskobu) is a village lying partly in the Limassol district of Cyprus and partly in the British Overseas Territory of Akrotiri and Dhekelia.
