The 2008–09 Cupa României was the 71st season of the Romanian football knockout tournament. It began on 30 July 2008 and the final was played on 13 June 2009. CFR Cluj were the defending champions and succeeded in keeping the cup for one more year at Cluj-Napoca. Asociația Fotbal Club Astra Giurgiu (), commonly known as Astra Giurgiu or simply Astra, was a Romanian football club last based in the city of Giurgiu, Giurgiu County. Dunărea Galați was a Romanian professional football club from Galați, Galați County, south-east Romania, founded in 1970. The club was dissolved in 2014. History The club was founded in 1970, took the place of Oțelul Galați in Divizia B and has played for 5 seasons in the Liga I. For a brief period, it was Galați's main team, but after the rise of Oțelul in the 1980s, it is seen only in the Liga II and the Liga III. Internaţional Curtea de Argeș was a Romanian professional football club from Curtea de Argeș, Argeș County, founded in 2000 and dissolved in 2011. During its short existence, the club reached the highest stage in Romanian football, Liga I, playing for a season in this first tier.
