2008 World Fencing Championships
The 2008 World Fencing Championships were held at the Olympic Green Convention Center in Beijing, China. The event took place from April 18 to April 20, 2008. It had men's team foil and women's team épée, both of which were not held at the 2008 Summer Olympics. Imke Duplitzer
Imke Duplitzer (born 28 July 1975 in Karlsruhe) is a German épée fencing, fencer. Imke is a four time Olympian (2000, 2004, 2008, and 2012) where she placed 10th, 5th, 5th, and 29th respectively (in the individual competition). She also fenced in three team events at the Olympics, and at the 2004 Summer Olympics she won the silver medal in the team épée competition with Britta Heidemann and Claudia Bokel. During the 2006 World Fencing Championships she won the bronze medal after beating Romania in the épée team event together with her teammates Claudia Bokel, Britta Heidemann and Marijana Markovic. She is also a two time European Champion in the individual event (1999 & 2010) as well as being a part of the Gold medal-winning team in 1998. Duplitzer is coming out, openly lesbian. Zhong Weiping
Zhong Weiping (; born October 23, 1981 in Shanghai) is a female Chinese épée fencer. Zhong won the gold medal in the épée team event at the 2006 World Fencing Championships after beating France in the final. She accomplished this with her team mates Li Na, Luo Xiaojuan and Zhang Li. She also competed for China at the 2004 Athens Olympics, finishing 10th in the individual épée and 6th in the team épée events. Zhang won the gold medal in the épée team event at the 2006 World Fencing Championships after beating France in the final. Luo Xiaojuan (骆晓娟, Luò Xiǎojuān, born 12 June 1984) is a Chinese épée fencer. Luo won the gold medal in the épée team event at the 2006 World Fencing Championships after beating France in the final. She accomplished this with her teammates Li Na, Zhang Li and Zhong Weiping. Li Na (; born 9 March 1981 in Dandong, Liaoning) is a Chinese épée fencer. She won a bronze medal in the women's team épée event at the 2000 Summer Olympics, and won gold in the same event at the 2012 Summer Olympics. Li won the gold medal in the épée team event at the 2006 World Fencing Championships, after beating France in the final. She accomplished this with her teammates Luo Xiaojuan, Zhang Li and Zhong Weiping. Hajnalka Kiraly
Hajnalka Kiraly-Picot (born March 2, 1971 in Veszprém) is a Hungarian-born French épée fencer. With Hungary she was three-time team World champion (1993, 1997, and 2002) and 2001 team European champion. With France, she won the team bronze medal at the 2004 Summer Olympics as well as three team world titles (2005, 2007, and 2008). Career Kiraly began fencing at the age of 10 on a friend's suggestion. When she was 18 she joined Honvéd Budapest, the sports club of the Hungarian Defence Force. She won in 1991 the silver medal at the Junior World Championships in Istanbul. Two years she became a component of the national épée team along with Tímea Nagy, Ildikó Mincza-Nébald and Adrienn Hormay. She was selected for the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta, but only as a reserve. As such she did not live in the Olympic village and could not access the official ceremonies. Laura Flessel-Colovic (born 6 November 1971) is a French politician and épée fencer who served as Minister of Sports from 2017 to 2018. Born in Pointe-à-Pitre, Guadeloupe, she has won the most Olympic medals of any French sportswoman, with five. Before 2007, she was a member of the Levallois Sporting Club Escrime, and now works with Lagardère Paris Racing. She is married and has one daughter. She was France's flag-bearer at the 2012 Summer Olympics opening ceremony in London, which was her fifth and last Olympics. She was appointed Minister of Sports in the Philippe Government on 17 May 2017 and resigned on 4 September 2018.
