2008 Vintage Yachting Games – Soling
The Soling was an event on the 2008 Vintage Yachting Games program at the IJsselmeer, Netherlands. Six out of the seven scheduled race were completed. 36 sailors, on 12 boats, from 10 nations entered. Venue overview Race area and Course Approximately 2 nautical miles of the coast of Medemblik two course areas (orange and yellow) were used for the 2008 edition of the Vintage Yachting Games. For the 2008 edition of the Vintage Yachting Games, four different courses were available. The Soling could use course 4 and course 3 (above windspeeds of 14kn). Vintage Yachting Games
The Vintage Yachting Games are an international Quadrennial multi class sailing event for former Olympic classes and the former Classes of the Paralympic Games. The Vintage Games is held every four years. The idea behind the Vintage is to Organize a four yearly high-end event in the calendars of all the former (Paralympic) Olympic Classes after their discontinuation at the Olympics or Paralympic Games. First the idea was discusses and developed locally by Rudy den Outer and representatives of several Dutch class organizations of former Olympic classes (Martijn van der Driest of Europe, Harold Wijgers of Flying Dutchman, Johan Offermans of Soling, Michiel van Dis of Dragon and Hans Nadorp of 5.5 Metre). In the next phase the presidents/chairman of the international classes became involved (Jan Abrahamsen of Europe class, Theo Meus of O-Jolle, Alberto Barenghi of Flying Dutchman, Rose Hoeksema of Soling and Rupert Fisher of Dragon). Dick Coster
Benedictus Antonius Maria "Dick" Coster (born 19 June 1946 in Leiden) is a sailor from the Netherlands. Since the Netherlands did boycott the Moscow Olympic Games Coster represented his National Olympic Committee at the 1980 Summer Olympics in Tallinn, USSR under the Dutch NOC flag. With Geert Bakker as helmsman and fellow crew member Steven Bakker, Coster took the 5th place in the Soling. During the 1976 Olympics Coster was substitute for the Dutch Soling team. Dick Coster also represented The Netherlands during the 2008 Vintage Yachting Games in Medemblik as crew in the Soling with helmsman Steven Bakker and fellow crewmembers Sven Coster and Joost Houweling.
