The Southland Conference, abbreviated as SLC, is a collegiate athletic conference which operates in the South Central United States (specifically Texas and Louisiana). It participates in the NCAA's Division I for all sports; for football, it participates in the Division I Football Championship Subdivision (FCS). The Southland sponsors 18 sports, 10 for women and eight for men, and is governed by a presidential Board of Directors and an Advisory Council of athletic and academic administrators. First Security Field at Estes Stadium is a 10,000-seat multi-purpose stadium in Conway, Arkansas. It is home to the Central Arkansas Bears football team, representing the University of Central Arkansas in the NCAA's ASUN Conference. The facility opened in 1939. The 2008 Texas State Bobcats football team represented Texas State University–San Marcos in the 2008 NCAA Division I FCS football season. The Bobcats led by second year head coach Brad Wright, played their home games at Bobcat Stadium as a member of the Southland Conference. They finished the season with a record of eight wins and five losses (8–5, 5–2 Southland). Despite finishing in second place in conference play, they earned the Southland Conference's automatic bid, due to the conference champion Central Arkansas being ineligible for the postseason due to their transition period after moving up from Division II.
