The 2008 SAFF Championship was held in Malé, Maldives and Colombo, Sri Lanka between 3 and 14 June 2008. Initially, the tournament was due to be held in 2007 but was postponed to 2008. Ali Ashfaq
Ali Ashfaq (; born 6 September 1985) is a Maldivian professional footballer who plays as a forward and captains the Maldives national team. Nicknamed "Man of Steel" (), he is regarded as one of the best players in the South Asian region. A prolific and individualistic goalscorer, he is a free-kick specialist and a clinical finisher. His trademark style of scoring is beating the defenders and rounding off the keeper to score. He is considered as the best Maldivian footballer ever, most notably when he was named as the "World's 2nd best top goal scorer" in 2013 by IFFHS. He was also named as South Asia's Best Player in 2014 by eultimategoal.com. In March 2016, Ashfaq scored his 50th goal for Maldives. Naveed Akram
Naveed Akram ( ur, نوید اکرم; born May 16, 1984) is a Pakistani international footballer who plays as a right-back for Lyallpur. Akram won three national titles with WAPDA. He was part of the Lahore Lajpaal team that lost in the semi-finals of Geo Super Football League. He made his international debut on 16 June 2005 during the Indo-Pak series. Playing style Naveed plays as an attacking right back on the pitch, and always tends to assist in the attacking plays as well as having a knack of scoring goals himself. Chathura Gunarathna
Chathura Gunaratne Wellala Hettige ( si, වෙල්ලාල හෙට්ටිගේ චතුර ගුණරත්න; born 8 September 1982), better known as Chathura Gunaratne, is an association footballer from Sri Lanka. Chathura plays in midfield and has played for three clubs in Sri Lanka as well as the Sri Lanka national football team. Club career Gunaratne began his career with Negombo Youth in the 2005–06 season. That season, the club won the Kit Premier League, Sri Lanka's top division, topping "Segment A" before defeating Blue Star in the overall final. Gunaratne stayed with Negombo for the 2006–07 season, but they failed to emulate the success of the previous season, finishing in third place in the split league and losing to Blue Star in the overall semi-finals.
