2008 Next Generation Adelaide International
The 2008 Next Generation Adelaide International was a men's tennis tournament played on outdoor hard courts. It was the 31st edition of the event known that year as the Next Generation Adelaide International, and was part of the International Series of the 2008 ATP Tour. It took place at the Memorial Drive Park in Adelaide, Australia, from 31 December 2007 through 6 January 2008. The draw was led by former World No. 1, two-time Adelaide champion and recent Cincinnati semi-finalist Lleyton Hewitt, Moscow runner-up Paul-Henri Mathieu, and Basel finalist Jarkko Nieminen. ATP International Series
The ATP International Series (known from 1990 to 1997 as the ATP World Series) was a series of professional tennis tournaments held internationally as part of the ATP Tour from 2000 to 2008. The series was renamed ATP Tour 250 in 2009. International Series offered players cash prizes (tournaments have purses from $416,000 to $1,000,000) and the ability to earn ATP ranking points. They generally offered less prize money and fewer points than the ATP International Series Gold, but more than tournaments on the ATP Challenger Series. Robert Smeets
Robert Smeets (born 10 November 1985) is an Australian retired professional tennis player. Though born in the Netherlands, Smeets moved to Australia aged 12 and took residency. Personal life Smeets has two sisters, called Karin and Cheyenne. His mother is Jeannette and father, Joe. He lives in Brisbane. Tennis career Smeets plays predominantly on the ATP Challenger Series and ITF Men's Circuit. Christopher Luke Guccione ( ; born 30 July 1985) is an inactive Australian professional tennis player from Greenvale, Victoria. He has won five ATP Tour doubles titles, and reached career-high rankings of singles world No. 67 in April 2008 and doubles world No. 38 in November 2014. Personal life Guccione is of Italian descent on his father's side. He was an Australian Institute of Sport scholarship holder. He is married to Andra Kucerak, with whom he has two children. Sébastien René Grosjean (; born 29 May 1978) is a French former professional tennis player. Grosjean reached the semifinals at the 2001 Australian and French Opens, and at Wimbledon in 2003 and 2004. Juan Martín del Potro () (born 23 September 1988) is an Argentine inactive professional tennis player. Radek Štěpánek (; born 27 November 1978) is a Czech former professional tennis player. His career-high singles ranking was world No. 8 and best doubles ranking was world No. 4.
