Monmouthshire County Council
Monmouthshire County Council (or simply Monmouthshire Council) ( cy, Cyngor Sir Fynwy) is the governing body for the Monmouthshire principal area – one of the unitary authorities of Wales. The current unitary authority was created in 1996 and covers the eastern three-fifths of the historic county of Monmouthshire. The county council is based at County Hall in the hamlet of The Rhadyr, near Usk. Since the 2022 elections the council has been under no overall control, with Labour the largest party. The leader of the council since the 2022 elections has been Mary Ann Brocklesby of Labour. History The current Monmouthshire County Council is the second body of that name. 2004 Monmouthshire County Council Election
The 2004 Monmouthshire County Council election were held on 10 June 2004 to Monmouthshire County Council in southeast Wales, on the same day of the European Elections. The election was preceded by the 1999 elections and followed by the 2008 elections. Background The Conservatives formed a minority administration from the previous county council election in May 1999, being largest group on the council by one seat. Following two by-elections in 2002 (the Conservatives losing one seat to the Liberal Democrats and Labour taking a seat from an Independent), the Labour Party became the largest group by one seat. Having secured the support of Independent and Liberal Democrat councillors, Labour formed a minority administration from July 2002 until the election in June 2004. 2012 Monmouthshire County Council Election
The 2012 Monmouthshire County Council Election took place on 3 May 2012 in Wales to elect members of Monmouthshire County Council. It was held on the same day as other 2012 United Kingdom local elections, and the Council shifted from Conservative to No Overall Control. Priory is an electoral ward in Abergavenny, Monmouthshire. The ward elects councillors to Abergavenny Town Council and Monmouthshire County Council. The ward covers the central area of the town northeast of the main shopping area, bounded to the north by Park Crescent and surrounding Bailey Park. According to the 2001 UK Census the population of the ward was 1,942, increasing to 2,196 by the 2011 UK Census. Goetre Fawr is a community and electoral ward in Monmouthshire, Wales, a few miles south of the town of Abergavenny. According to the 2011 UK Census the population of the community and ward was 2,393. Community The community includes the villages or settlements of Goytre, Penperlleni, Little Mill, Mamhilad, Nant-y-derry and Pencroesoped. The A4042 road from Abergavenny to Cwmbran runs through the middle of the community, as does the Monmouthshire and Brecon Canal and the mainline railway.
