2008 League Of Ireland First Division
The 2008 League of Ireland First Division season was the 24th season of the League of Ireland First Division. The First Division was contested by 10 teams and Dundalk won the division. Club information Overview The regular season began on 7 March and concluded on 15 November. Each team played the other teams four times, totaling 36 games. Only the champions, Dundalk, were automatically promoted and there was no promotion/relegation play-off between Premier Division and First Division teams. This was because the 2009 Premier Division would be reduced to 10 clubs. The League of Ireland First Division ( ga, Céad Roinn Sraith na hÉireann), also known as the SSE Airtricity League First Division, is the second level division in both the League of Ireland and the Republic of Ireland football league system. The division was formed in 1985. It replaced the League of Ireland B Division as the League of Ireland's second level division. Since 2003 the First Division has operated as a summer league. Station Road, Newbridge
Station Road is a football ground and training complex located in Newbridge, County Kildare, Ireland. It is home to Leinster Senior League outfit Newbridge Town F.C. It was also the home of now defunct Eircom League Division One side Kildare County F.C. The ground was bought in the early 1980s by Newbridge Town F.C. Mick Cooke (football Manager)
Mick Cooke (born 14 August 1951) is an Irish association football manager and former player. Playing career A former youths international Cooke played in the qualifiers for Republic of Ireland national under-19 football team in the 1970 UEFA European Under-18 Football Championship. An inside left he started his career at St Patrick's Athletic F.C. He then moved to Drogheda United scoring 8 league goals in four seasons and was their top scorer in 1972/73. He played in both games of the 1971 FAI Cup Final as Drogheda lost in the replay to Limerick. The Dubliner was signed by Mick Meagan for Shamrock Rovers later that year, the man who had brought him to Drogheda as a teenager four years earlier. Flancare Park
Strokestown Road, currently known as Bishopsgate for sponsorship purposes, is the name of a football stadium in Longford, Ireland which is the home of League of Ireland club Longford Town. History In the mid-1990s, Longford Town moved their home ground from Abbeycartron to the townland of Mullolagher just off the N5 road between Longford and Tarmonbarry. It is one of the few League of Ireland grounds which is owned by the club itself. The stadium underwent a huge redevelopment at the end of 2000–01 season. Previous to this, while containing a good pitch and floodlights, the ground had poor facilities along with two terraced (one uncovered) stands and a single-seater stand. The club's promotion to the Premier Division in 2000 was seen as a catalyst in the redevelopment of the ground to its present-day form. Alan Gough
Alan Gough (born 10 March 1971) is an English football player and manager. He is the former Longford Town player manager. His clubs included Portsmouth, Galway United, Fulham, Shelbourne, Glentoran, Derry City and Bray Wanderers. Playing career Gough was born in Watford. He began his career initially as an apprentice with Portsmouth before moving to Ireland with Galway United. After eighteen months with Galway, he joined Shelbourne, with whom he spent five highly successful seasons. In the 1996 FAI Cup Final he was sent off at Lansdowne Road. In July 1999, Gough made the switch to Glentoran and had an excellent first season, winning three winners medals in the process. He was in terrific form in the Irish Cup Final and played a large part in the victory. He finished his career as team-captain at Galway United at the end of the 2006 season but continued to play in 2007 as an emergency goalkeeper as well as his assistant manager role. Jackman Park
Jackman Park is a football ground in Limerick, Ireland. Located on the Lower Carey's Road, it was home to Limerick F.C. and is regularly used for various matches in Limerick, from schoolboy to women's international games. The ground's total capacity is 2,450 with a single 261-seat stand on the site of the former shed. It is situated next to Limerick railway station which is clearly visible from the shed side. Crescent College owned the ground in the 1970s before moving out to Crescent College Comprehensive. During their ownership Old Crescent played there. It was known as Priory Park during this time. Floodlights were installed in 1989. West Ham United and Celtic have played at the venue in friendlies.
