2008 KB Extraliga Season
The 2008 KB Extraliga Competition was a Czech Republic, Czech domestic Rugby union, rugby club competition, operated by the Česká Rugbyová Unie (ČSRU). It began on August 16, 2008 with a match between Tatra Smíchov and Petrovice at the Stadion ragby Císařka in Prague, and ended with the final on November of that year with Tatra Smíchov beating RC Říčany, Říčany 17-9 played on Synot Tip Arena in Prague. Praga Rugby, Praga and RC Přelouč, Přelouč were added, increasing the number of teams to 10 from the 8 of the previous season. KB Extraliga
The Extraliga rugby is a rugby club competition played in the Czech Republic and is the top level of rugby in the country. There is a promotion-relegation process between the Extraliga ragby and the Národní liga ragby. The league used to be known as KB Extraliga due to sponsorship by Komerční banka (KB) which lasted until the 2014/15 season. The season usually runs from September to May, although in the 2008 season, it was only from August through November 2008. Since 2008 the final has been played at the Synot Tip Arena in Prague. RC Sparta Prague are the current champions. History The league was first played in 1993, with Vyškov as the first champions. Prior to the foundation of the league, clubs competed in the Czechoslovak Championship. It became known under the KB Extraliga name in 2003, when KB started sponsoring the Czech Rugby Union, as well as the national teams and leagues. RC Vyškov
RC Vyškov (known as JIMI RC Vyškov for sponsorship reasons) is a Czech rugby club in Vyškov. They currently play in the Extraliga ragby XV. History The club was founded in 1952. RC Sparta Prague
RC Sparta Prague is a Czech Republic, Czech Rugby union, rugby club based in Prague. They currently play in the Extraliga ragby XV and are the second oldest club in the Czech Republic after RC Slavia Prague, Slavia Prague. The club forms part of the Sparta Prague sports network. History Early years The club was officially founded on 28 August 1928, with the first coach being Frenchman Andrée Cannellas. Their first match was on 28 April 1929 against VŠ sport Brno. Later on in 1929 they took on fellow Prague side Slavia Prague, the latter prevailing 23–3. They did however manage to beat Slavia 8-0 not too long afterwards. In 1931 Sparta won their first of five Czechoslovak championship titles and supplied a number of players to the national team that took on Germany national rugby union team, Germany in Leipzig. RC Slavia Prague
RC Slavia Prague is a Czech rugby club based in Prague. They currently play in the KB Extraliga and are the oldest existing club in the Czech Republic. The club forms part of the Slavia Prague sports network. History The club was founded on 13 April 1927. On 7 May of that year, the first rugby match in Prague took place at Slavia, with Slavia Bratislava squaring off against Slavia Brno.
