2008 Isle Of Anglesey County Council Election
The 2008 Isle of Anglesey County Council election took place on Thursday 1 May 2008 to elect members of the Isle of Anglesey County Council in Wales. This was the same day as other 2012 United Kingdom local elections, United Kingdom local elections. The previous full council election was on 2004 Isle of Anglesey County Council election, 10 June 2004 and the next full council election was held on 2013 Isle of Anglesey County Council election, 2 May 2013. Election result Forty county councillors were elected from forty Ward (electoral subdivision), electoral wards (by the 2013 election this had been reduced to 30 councillors and eleven electoral divisions). Seven seats had no election because there were no opposing candidates (this was a reduction in comparison with 2004, when 14 seats were uncontested). The Isle of Anglesey County Council ( cy, Cyngor Sir Ynys Môn) is the local authority for the county of Anglesey, one of the principal areas of Wales. Since 2022 the council has 35 councillors who represent 11 multi-member electoral wards. History The first county council for Anglesey was created in 1889 under the Local Government Act 1888, which established elected county councils to take over the administrative functions of the quarter sessions. The original county council did not include "Isle of" in its name, simply being called "Anglesey County Council". Rhosneigr
Rhosneigr (; ) is a village in the south-west of Anglesey, north Wales. It is situated on the A4080 road some 10 km south-east of Holyhead, and is on the Anglesey Coastal Path. From the clock at the centre of the village can be seen RAF Valley and Mynydd Twr (Holyhead Mountain). The major towns of Holyhead and Llangefni and the city of Bangor, Gwynedd, Bangor are all within easy travelling distance. It is the most expensive place to live in Anglesey in terms of house prices. Isle Of Anglesey Electoral Boundary Changes 2012
The Isle of Anglesey electoral boundary changes in 2012 reduced the numbers of electoral wards to the Isle of Anglesey County Council from 40 to 11. This led to the postponement of local government elections in the county by 12 months. The changes were confirmed by the Isle of Anglesey (Electoral Arrangements) Order 2012 in October 2012. The changes were based on proposals by the Local Government Boundary Commission for Wales, after a review was ordered by the Welsh Government's Minister for Social Justice and Local Government, Carl Sargeant, in March 2012. The Commission proposed replacing the 40 electoral wards, which had elected one county councillor each, with eleven multi-member wards electing 30 county councillors in total.
