The 2008 Intercontinental Rally Challenge season was the third season of the Intercontinental Rally Challenge. The season consisted of ten rounds and began on April 4, with the Istanbul Rally. The season ended on December 12 with the China Rally. Nicolas Vouilloz won the title ahead of Freddy Loix and Giandomenico Basso. Intercontinental Rally Challenge
The Intercontinental Rally Challenge was an FIA-sanctioned rallying series organised by SRW Events and Eurosport Events, and aimed to "give new opportunities to young or amateur rally drivers competing in recognised regional and international rallies, while offering organisers an innovative TV format concept, created by Eurosport." The series focused on Group N and Group A spec cars up to 2000 cc, including Super 2000, R4, R2 and R3. The series began in 2006 under the name ''International Rally Challenge'', adopting the name, ''Intercontinental Rally Challenge'' in 2007. Champion Racing was a sports car racing team based in Pompano Beach, Florida, USA. Founded in 1994 by Dave Maraj, a former rally driver from Trinidad, as the motorsport wing of the Champion Motors car dealership, the team has campaigned various Porsches and Audis in North American road racing series. Champion Racing's extensive record includes a win at the prestigious 24 Hours of Le Mans in 2005, and 5 straight American Le Mans Series LMP1 championships, 2 as a private team and 3 as a factory team under the name Audi Sport North America. Olivier Burri (born 4 September 1963 in Hazebrouck, France) is a rally driver who has competed in the World Rally Championship on various occasions since 1991, almost exclusively at the Monte Carlo Rally. Biography Career in Rally Burri's professional rallying début was at the 1991 Monte Carlo Rally driving a Ford Sierra RS Cosworth. 1991 also saw his début in the European Rally Championship which he has had modest success in. He has entered in eighteen ERC rounds, winning six of them. He has also competed in the Rallye International du Valais, a Swiss-based rally that is also a part of the ERC, which he has won numerous times. Didier Auriol (born 18 August 1958) is a French former rally driver. Born in Montpellier, and initially an ambulance driver, he competed in the World Rally Championship throughout the 1990s. He became World Rally Champion in 1994, the first driver from his country to do so. He was a factory candidate for Lancia, Toyota and Peugeot among others, before losing his seat at Škoda at the end of 2003. His sister Nadine was also involved in rallying as a co-driver, while his brother Gerrard was also a former rally driver. Career At the age of 21, Auriol started rallying in an old Simca 1000. He drove the Simca for two years before getting a Renault 5 Turbo to compete in the French Rally Championship. In 1986 he competed in a Metro 6R4. François Duval (born 18 November 1980) is a Belgian rally driver. Career 1999–2004 Francois Duval is the son of former rally driver Rene Duval. With victories in four events Duval won the Belgian Citroën Saxo Challenge title in 1999. Daniel Solà Villa (born 3 January 1976) is a Spanish rally driver. He won the Junior World Rally Championship in 2002 and the Spanish Rally Championship in 2006.
