2008 East–West Shrine Game
The 2008 East–West Shrine Game was the 83rd staging of the all-star college football exhibition game featuring NCAA Division I Football Bowl Subdivision players. The game featured over 100 players from the 2007 college football season, and prospects for the 2008 Draft of the professional National Football League (NFL). In the week prior to the game, scouts from all 32 NFL teams attended. The proceeds from the East–West Shrine Game benefit Shriners Hospitals for Children. The game was played on January 19, 2008, at 6 p.m. CT at Robertson Stadium on the campus of the University of Houston, and was televised by ESPN2. The offensive MVP was Josh Johnson ( QB, San Diego), while the defensive MVP was Spencer Larsen ( LB, Arizona). Robertson Stadium
John O'Quinn Field at Corbin J. Robertson Stadium (often referred to as simply Robertson Stadium) was a multi-purpose stadium in Houston, located on the campus of the University of Houston. It was the home of the Houston Cougars football and women's soccer teams. The stadium was the first home for the Houston Dynamo of Major League Soccer from 2006 to 2011, as well as the first home of the American Football League's Houston Oilers from 1960 to 1964. On January 1, 1961, it hosted the American Football League Championship Game (for the 1960 title). The Oilers defeated the Los Angeles Chargers (24–16) to become the league's first champions. ''The Des Moines Register'' is the daily morning newspaper of Des Moines, Iowa. History Early period The first newspaper in Des Moines was the ''Iowa Star''. In July 1849, Barlow Granger began the paper in an abandoned log cabin by the junction of the Des Moines and Raccoon River. Cory J. Boyd (born August 6, 1985) is a former gridiron football running back. He was drafted by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the 7th round of the 2008 NFL Draft. He played college football at South Carolina Gamecocks football, South Carolina. Early years Boyd played high school football and basketball at Orange High School (New Jersey), Orange High School, earning him a football scholarship to the University of South Carolina. Garrett Hartley
Garrett Hartley (born May 16, 1986) is an American football placekicker who is a free agent. He was signed by the Denver Broncos as an undrafted free agent in 2008. Later that year he became the placekicker for the New Orleans Saints, for whom he set an NFL record (now surpassed) for most consecutive successful field goals to start a career, and then became the first kicker in NFL history to convert three field goals of more than 40 yards in the Super Bowl. Taylor Mehlhaff (born August 25, 1985) is a former American football placekicker. He was drafted by the New Orleans Saints in the sixth round of the 2008 NFL Draft. He played college football at Wisconsin Badgers football, Wisconsin where he was a First-team All-American. Mehlhaff has also been a member of the Minnesota Vikings and Hartford Colonials. The Arizona State Sun Devils football team represents Arizona State University in the sport of American football. Pat Tillman
Patrick Daniel Tillman Jr. (November 6, 1976 – April 22, 2004) was an American professional football player in the National Football League (NFL) who left his sports career and enlisted in the United States Army in May 2002 in the aftermath of the September 11 attacks. His service in Iraq and Afghanistan, as well as subsequent death, were the subject of national attention when he was killed in action as a result of accidental "friendly fire".
