2008 Belarusian First League
2008 Belarusian First League was the 18th season of 2nd level football championship in Belarus. It started in April and ended in November 2008. Team changes from 2007 season Three top teams of last season ( Savit Mogilev, Granit Mikashevichi and Lokomotiv Minsk) were promoted to Belarusian Premier League. Due to expansion of Premier League, the promoted teams were replaced by only one team that finished at the bottom of 2007 Belarusian Premier League table (Minsk). One team that finished at the bottom of 2007 season table ( Zvezda-BGU Minsk) relegated to the Second League. To compensate for the Premier League expansion, they were replaced by three best teams of 2007 Second League ( PMC Postavy, Lida and Spartak Shklov). Mozyr changed their name to Slavia Mozyr prior to the season. Belarusian First League
The Belarusian First League is the second tier of professional football in Belarus. It was created in 1992, following the Belarusian independence. History and format The typical format of the league involves 16 clubs playing a double round-robin tournament over 30 matchdays (with the exception of shortened 1992 and 1995 seasons, which were a single round-robin tournaments). On several occasions the number of participating teams was smaller (15 or 14), due to last minute withdrawals and no teams available for replacement. In most of the seasons, two best teams are getting promoted to Belarusian Premier League, while two worst teams are relegated Belarusian Second League. FC Slavia Mozyr
FC Slavia Mozyr ( be, ФК Славія Мазыр, ''FK Slavija Mazyr'') is a Belarusian football team, based in Mozyr, Belarus. History The team was founded in 1987 as Polesie Mozyr. Between 1987 and 1991, they played in the Belarusian SSR league. From 1992 till 1995, they played in the Belarusian First League. They changed their name to MPKC Mozyr since the 1994–95 season. MPKC stands for the Mozyr Industrial-Commercial Center. They won the First League the same year and made their debut in the Belarusian Premier League in fall 1995 season. They finished second in 1995 and won the championship in 1996, becoming the first team other than Dinamo Minsk to win it. After changing their name to Slavia Mozyr in 1998, they again finished second in 1999 and won the title in 2000. Nesvizh
Nesvizh, Niasviž ( be, Нясві́ж ; lt, Nesvyžius; pl, Nieśwież; russian: Не́свиж; yi, ניעסוויז; la, Nesvisium) is a city in Belarus. Bobruisk
Babruysk, Babrujsk or Bobruisk ( be, Бабруйск , Łacinka: , rus, Бобруйск, Bobrujsk, bɐˈbruɪ̯s̪k, yi, באָברויסק ) is a city in the Mogilev Region of eastern Belarus on the Berezina River. , its population was 209,675. FC Polotsk was a Belarusian professional football club based in Polotsk, Vitebsk Oblast, Belarus. History The club was founded in 2004 and joined Belarusian Second League the same year.
