2008 Beijing Wushu Tournament – Men's Changquan
The men's changquan competition at the 2008 Beijing Wushu Tournament was held on August 22 at the Olympic Sports Center Gymnasium. Background The favorite of the competition, Yuan Xiaochao, had been undefeated in changquan in international competitions since 2005 which included gold medal victories at the World Wushu Championships, the Asian Games, and at the East Asian Games. Aung Si Thu and Ang Eng Chong were also projected favorites as they were the silver and bronze medalists respectively at the 2007 World Wushu Championships. At the Beijing Wushu Tournament, Yuan Xiaochao clearly dominated the competition with a wide margin and thus won the gold medal. Olympic Sports Center Gymnasium (Beijing)
The Olympic Sports Center Gymnasium () is an indoor arena next to the Olympic Sports Center Stadium at the southern part of the Olympic Green in Beijing, China. It was reformed for the 2008 Summer Olympics where it hosted the handball tournaments up to and including the quarter-finals, after which they moved to the larger Beijing National Indoor Stadium. Yuan Xiaochao
"Jayden" Yuan Xiaochao (; born 7 August 1988) is a retired professional wushu taolu athlete and actor from China. He was a world champion in 2005 and 2007. Career Competitive wushu Yuan started to practice martial arts in Songjiang Martial Arts School in 1998 and later joined the Shanxi Provincial Wushu Team. Yuan's international debut was at the 2005 East Asian Games where he won a bronze medal in changquan. He then appeared at the 2005 World Wushu Championships and was the world champion in changquan. Later in the year, he competed in the 2005 National Games of China and won the gold medal in men's daoshu and gunshu combined. Ehsan Peighambari ( fa, احسان پیغمبری) is a former wushu taolu athlete from Iran. At the 2010 Asian Games in Guangzhou, China, he became the first Iranian athlete to win a medal in wushu taolu, having won the bronze medal in men's changquan. Changquan
Chángquán () refers to a family of external (as opposed to internal) martial arts (kung fu) styles from northern China. The forms of the Long Fist style emphasize fully extended kicks and striking techniques, and by appearance would be considered a long-range fighting system. In some Long Fist styles the motto is that "the best defense is a strong offense," in which case the practitioner launches a preemptive attack so aggressive that the opponent doesn't have the opportunity to attack. The 2008 Beijing Wushu Tournament (Chinese: 北京2008武术比赛; pinyin: ''Běijīng 2008 wǔshù bǐsài'') was a wushu competition which was held from August 21 to 24, 2008 at the Olympic Sports Center Gymnasium in Beijing, China. World Wushu Championships
The World Wushu Championships (WWC) is an international sports championship hosted by the International Wushu Federation (IWUF) for the sports of wushu taolu and sanda (sanshou).
