2008 Archery World Cup
The 2008 Archery World Cup was the 3rd edition of the international archery circuit, organised by the World Archery Federation. The best individual and mixed performers in each discipline over the three legs then joined host representatives in qualifying for the finals. Competition rules and scoring The compound legs consisted of a 50m qualification round of 72 arrows, followed by the compound round at 50m on a 6-zone target face, using cumulative scoring for all individual, team and mixed competitions. The top four individual performers (with no more than two from each country) proceeded to the finals. The recurve legs consisted of a FITA qualification round, followed by a 72m Olympic set system . Archery World Cup
The Archery World Cup is a competition, started in 2006, organized by the World Archery Federation, where the archers compete in four stages in four countries and the best eight archers of each category (from 2010, four archers during 2006-09) advance to an additional stage to contest the Archery World Cup Final. This form of competition was introduced following the success of the 2003 World Archery Championships in New York and the 2004 Summer Olympics with the intent of making the sport more popular and attractive to spectators, with the matches being held in 'spectacular' locations and the final matches being broadcast online. It has received plaudits for its innovative approach to the sport, raising its profile and reach. Balzhinima Tsyrenzhapovich Tsyrempilov (russian: Бальжинима́ Цыренжа́пович Цыремпи́лов, links=no, ''Balzhinimá Tsyrenzhápovich Tsyrempílov'', born April 9, 1975 in Ulekchin, Zakamensky District, Buryatia) is a World Cup-winning and former world number one Buryat archer from Russia. 2004 Summer Olympics Tsyrempilov competed at the 2004 Summer Olympics in men's individual archery. Park Sung-hyun (archer)
Park Sung-hyun (; born 1 January 1983) is an archer from South Korea who competed in two Olympic Games, winning three gold medals. Park made her international archery debut in 2001, winning the women's recurve title at that year's World Archery Championships. Her Olympic debut came at the 2004 Summer Olympics, where she won gold medals in both the women's individual and women's team events. She won two further medals at the 2008 Summer Olympics, achieving her third Olympic gold in the women's team event before earning the silver medal as the runner-up in the women's individual event. During her career Park achieved success in a variety of international competitions. She was the first South Korean archer to achieve gold medals at the Olympics, the World Championships, the Asian Games, and the Asian Championships. Justyna Mospinek (born 8 November 1983 in Zgierz) is an athlete from Poland who competes in archery. 2004 Summer Olympics Mospinek represented Poland at the 2004 Summer Olympics. She placed 7th in the women's individual ranking round with a 72-arrow score of 657. In the first round of elimination, she faced 58th-ranked Maydenia Sarduy of Cuba. Mospinek defeated Sarduy 162–145 in the 18-arrow match to advance to the round of 32. In that round, she faced Viktoriya Beloslydtseva of Kazakhstan. Mospinek won the match 163–155 in the regulation 18 arrows, advancing to the round of 16. Mospinek then lost to 10th-ranked Wu Hui Ju of Chinese Taipei (Taiwan) 160–151, finishing 14th in women's individual archery. Yun Ok-hee (Korean: 윤옥희, Hanja: 尹玉姬, ; born 1 March 1985) is a South Korean archer, who won the gold medal in the team and a silver in the individual competition at the 2006 Asian Games and is a former world number one. 2008 Summer Olympics At the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing Yun finished her ranking round with a total of 667 points, six points behind ranking leader Park Sung-hyun. This gave her the second seed for the final competition bracket in which she faced Albina Kamaltdinova in the first round, beating the archer from Tajikistan 109-102. In the second round, Yun was too strong for Marie-Pier Beaudet (114-107) and via Chen Ling (113-103) in the third round she advanced to the quarter finals. Bérengère Schuh (born 13 June 1984 in Auxerre) is an athlete from France. She competes in archery. 2004 Summer Olympics Schuh represented France at the 2004 Summer Olympics. She placed 31st in the women's individual ranking round with a 72-arrow score of 626. In the first round of elimination, she faced 34th-ranked Elpida Romantzi of Greece. Natalia Valeeva (born 15 November 1969 in Tîrnauca, Transnistria) is a naturalized Italian archer. She is a five-time Olympian and former world number one, and a native of Moldova, having represented the Unified Team, Moldova and Italy, at the Olympic Games of 1992, 1996, 2000, 2004, 2008 and 2012. Park Kyung-mo (; born August 15, 1975) is an archer from South Korea. He has won gold medals at the three major World Archery Federation events ( Olympics, World Archery Championships and World Cup finals) and is a former world number one. He is married to archer Park Sung-hyun. 2004 Summer Olympics Park competed for Korea at the 2004 Summer Olympics in men's individual archery. He won his first three elimination matches, advancing to the quarterfinals. In the quarterfinals, Park faced Tim Cuddihy of Australia, losing to the eventual bronze medalist 112-111 in the 12-arrow match. Park placed 5th overall and holds the Olympic record for an 18-arrow match at 70 meters. He scored 173 points out of the potential 180 to set the record. Brady Ellison
Brady Ellison (born October 27, 1988) is an American archer who competes in recurve archery. He is currently a Resident Athlete at the United States Olympic Training Center in Chula Vista, California. He holds the record for the longest continuous period as the world number-one-ranked men's recurve archer, from August 2011 to April 2013. He earned his nickname "The Prospector" during the 2015 world championships due to his proclivity for 'finding gold'. Personal life As a child, Ellison suffered from Legg–Calvé–Perthes disease and wore leg braces for some time. He has had subsequent health issues with his knees, particularly in the lead-up to and during the Rio 2016 Olympic Games, and the fingers of his drawing hand.
