2007–08 UCI Track Cycling World Cup Classics – Round 4 – Women's Scratch
The fourth round of the women's scratch race of the 2007–08 UCI Track Cycling World Cup Classics took place in Copenhagen, Denmark on 15 February 2008. Competition format A scratch race is a race in which all riders start together and the object is simply to be first over the finish line after a certain number of laps. There are no intermediate points or sprints. The tournament consisted of two qualifying heats of 7.5 km (30 laps). The top twelve cyclist of each heat advanced to the 10 km final (40 laps). 2007–08 UCI Track Cycling World Cup Classics
The 2007–2008 UCI Track Cycling World Cup Classics was a multi race competition over a season of track cycling. The season began on 30 November 2007 and ended on 17 February 2008. The World Cup is organised by the UCI. The 2007–2008 series carried vital ranking points towards the 2008 Beijing Olympics. Rebecca Quinn (cyclist)
Rebecca Quinn (born May 24, 1971) is an American professional racing cyclist from Quakertown, Pennsylvania. Quinn finished third in the 2007 UCI Track Cycling World Championships - Women's scratch but was relegated as she had made contact with another rider during the sprint finish. Quinn took USA Cycling to arbitration in a Colorado Springs courtroom on July 9, 2008, after she was not selected as part of the squad for the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing. She claimed that Sarah Hammer was selected in her place due to favoritism as Hammer is engaged to be married to the team coach, Andy Sparks. Although the court did not find in her favor, they did order USA Cycling to pay the costs as the actions of their coaches had caused legitimate doubt over the fairness of any rider being selected. The Neva (russian: Нева́, ) is a river in northwestern Russia flowing from Lake Ladoga through the western part of Leningrad Oblast (historical region of Ingria) to the Neva Bay of the Gulf of Finland. Iona Wynter-Parks (born November 25, 1968, in London, England), née Wynter is a former triathlete and cyclist from Jamaica. Wynter-Parks was born to a Jamaican father and a German mother, and moved to Jamaica aged two. Wynter was educated at Campion College, Jamaica, the University of the West Indies, Dalhousie University, Georgia State University and Laval University, where she combined studies with triathlon training and employment, including modelling swimwear for Louis Garneau. Subsequently she secured funding from compatriot Chris Blackwell, founder of Island Records.
