2007–08 Hull City A.F.C. Season
During the 2007–08 English football season, Hull City A.F.C. competed in the Football League Championship. Season summary Hull finished a mere four points adrift of second-placed Stoke City for promotion to the Premier League, qualifying for the play-offs instead. After trouncing Watford 6–1 over two legs, Hull City reached Wembley to play a Bristol City side aiming for a second successive promotion. A single Dean Windass goal gave Hull the game and promotion to English football's top flight for the first time in Hull's history. Promotion was made all the more incredible considering that five seasons ago Hull were languishing in the bottom tier of the Football League, and that when manager Phil Brown had taken the managerial role at Hull in December 2006 the club were in the Championship relegation zone. Football League Championship
The English Football League Championship (often referred to as the Championship for short or the Sky Bet Championship for sponsorship purposes) is the highest division of the English Football League (EFL) and second-highest overall in the English football league system, after the Premier League. The league is contested by 24 clubs. Introduced for the 2004–05 season as the Football League Championship the division was previously known as the Football League Second Division (1892–1992) and Football League First Division (1992– 2004). The winning club of the Championship receives the EFL Championship trophy, the same trophy that was awarded to English First Division champions from 1892 until 1992. As in other divisions of professional English football, Welsh clubs can be part of the division, making it a cross-border league. Andy Dawson
Andrew Stuart Dawson (born 20 October 1978) is an English former professional footballer and coach. He is part of the coaching staff at Hull City. As a player he was a defender from 1997 to 2015. Having left Nottingham Forest as a youngster he joined Scunthorpe United permanently following a loan spell. He played for United on two occasions during his career having also spent ten years with Hull City. Career Early career Born in Northallerton, North Yorkshire, Dawson is the elder brother of Michael Dawson (formerly of Nottingham Forest) and Kevin Dawson (formerly of Chesterfield). Like his brothers, Andy started his professional career at Nottingham Forest, but he made only one senior appearance for them before moving to Scunthorpe for £45,000. Nathan Luke Robert Doyle (born 12 January 1987) is an English former professional footballer who played as a defender or a midfielder. He has represented England at under-16, under-17, under-18 and under-19 levels. Career Derby County Born in Derby, Derbyshire, Doyle started his career playing for Noel-Baker School. He made his professional debut for Derby County on 1 November 2003, aged 16, in a 3–0 defeat away to Preston North End. Glyn Oliver "Boaz" Myhill (born 9 November 1982; ) is a former professional footballer who played as a goalkeeper. He represented the Wales national team from 2008 to 2013. Dean Windass
Dean Windass (born 1 April 1969) is an English former professional footballer who played as a striker. He played spells at Bradford City and contributed to his hometown team Hull City's promotion to the Premier League in 2008. Windass started his footballing career as a trainee at his hometown club, Hull City, and signed his first professional contract there. He scored 64 goals in 205 games for Hull, and, when he left, he brought the club a record transfer fee at the time, going on to play in the top divisions in both English and Scottish football. Later in his career, he returned to Hull City, and scored the only goal of the 2008 Football League Championship play-off final to take them to the top flight for the first time in their history.
