The 2007–08 Dallas Stars season began on October 3, 2007 and was the franchise's 41st season in the National Hockey League (NHL) and its 15th as the Dallas Stars. Western Conference (NHL)
The Western Conference (french: Conférence de l'Ouest) is one of two conferences in the National Hockey League (NHL) used to divide teams. Its counterpart is the Eastern Conference. History Originally named the Clarence Campbell Conference (or Campbell Conference for short), it was created in 1974 when the NHL realigned its teams into two conferences and four divisions. Because the new conferences and divisions had little to do with North American geography, geographical references were removed. The conferences and divisions were re-aligned in 1981 to better reflect the geographical locations of the teams, but the existing names were retained with the Campbell Conference becoming the conference for the NHL's westernmost teams. The names of conferences and divisions were changed in 1993 to reflect their geographic locations. 2008 Stanley Cup Playoffs
The 2008 Stanley Cup playoffs of the National Hockey League (NHL) began on April 9, 2008, after the 2007–08 regular season. The 16 teams that qualified, eight from each conference, played best-of-seven series for conference quarterfinals, semifinals and championships, then the conference champions played a best-of-seven series for the Stanley Cup. The Buffalo Sabres became the second team to miss the playoffs after winning the Presidents' Trophy in the prior season. This would not happen again until 2015. The Finals ended on June 4, 2008, with the Detroit Red Wings defeating the Pittsburgh Penguins four games to two to win their eleventh championship and their fourth in eleven seasons. Tobias Stephan
Tobias Stephan (born 21 January 1984) is a Swiss professional ice hockey goaltender currently playing for Lausanne HC of the National League (NL). He formerly played for the Dallas Stars of the National Hockey League, Genève-Servette HC and EV Zug. Playing career Stephan was born in Zürich, Switzerland. As a youth, he played in the 1997 and 1998 Quebec International Pee-Wee Hockey Tournaments with a team from Zürich. In 2001, he was named the best goaltender at U18 World Junior Championships. Stephan first played for EHC Chur and then for the Kloten Flyers in Switzerland. In 2002, he was named the best rookie in the Swiss Hockey League. Stephan was drafted 34th overall in the second round of the 2002 NHL Entry Draft by the Dallas Stars, and is the third highest Swiss drafted in history. Mike Smith (born March 22, 1982) is a Canadian professional ice hockey goaltender for the Edmonton Oilers of the National Hockey League (NHL).
