2007 World Ringette Championships
The 2007 World Ringette Championships (''2007 WRC'') was an international ringette tournament and the 8th (VIII) of the World Ringette Championships. The tournament was organized by the International Ringette Federation (IRF) and was contested in Ottawa, Canada, between October 30 and November 3, 2007. The competition took place at the Ottawa Civic Centre which has since been renamed, "TD Place Arena" and was broadcast in Canada by Rogers TV. Overview The final game between Canada and Finland required an added period of overtime. Finnish player tied the game 4–4. Finnish player scored the winning overtime goal ending the game 5–4. Finland won the world championship series. WRC 2016 was the first time Finland beat Canada in a World Ringette Championship final hosted in Canada. TD Place Arena, originally the Ottawa Civic Centre, is an indoor arena located in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada, seating 9,500. With temporary seating and standing room it can hold 10,585. Opened in December 1967, it is used primarily for sports, including curling, figure skating, ice hockey and lacrosse. Keely Brown (goaltender)
Keely Brown is a former Canadian national level athlete who played ringette, roller in-line hockey, and ice hockey as a goaltender. She played for the Canada national ringette team, Canadian Senior National Ringette Team and was also a goalie on the Canada women's national inline hockey team, Canadian Women's National Inline Hockey team. Brown also played semi-professional ringette in Canada's National Ringette League and in semi-pro women's ice hockey. Brown currently works for the National Hockey League's, Edmonton Oilers as a Senior Legal Counsel, and works for the Oilers Entertainment Group (OEG). In ringette as an athlete, Brown has won the World Ringette Championships gold medal once, and the silver medal three times. She has won five more silver medals in coaching and consulting positions for the national Canadian ringette teams in both junior and senior levels. Julie Blanchette
Julie Blanchette (born January 9, 1977, in Montreal, Quebec) is an elite level Canadian ringette player who has also worked as a trainer and coach and served as the captain of several ringette teams including Team Canada. Blanchette played for the Montreal Mission of the National Ringette League and has also been a member of the Canadian national ringette team as both player and coach. Blanchette will be an assistant coach for the 2022 Team Canada Seniors who will compete in the 2022 World Ringette Championships. Sporting career Blanchette started playing ringette when she was 4 years old. Her brother played ice hockey and her parents looked for a team game for her, eventually signing her up with the local ringette club in Montreal. Anna Vanhatalo
Anna Vanhatalo (born 29 February 1984) is a Finnish retired ice hockey and ringette player and former member of the Finnish national ice hockey team and the Finnish national ringette team. Representing Finland, she won a bronze medal in the women's ice hockey tournament at the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver. In 2004 and 2007, she won gold in the World Ringette Championships. Ringette career Vanhatalo made her goaltending debut in the premier Finnish ringette league, the Ringeten SM-sarja, at age 18 in 2002. She was a member of the Finnish national ringette team in 2004 and 2007. Team Sweden represents Sweden in women's international roller derby. The team was first formed to compete at the 2011 Roller Derby World Cup, and finished the tournament in sixth place. Sweden's first bout was on 8 October 2011, against Team Finland in Helsinki, in what Stockholm Roller Derby claimed was "the world's first Roller Derby bout between two nations". Sweden won by 135 points to 71.
