2007 Saban General Election
Island council elections were held in the Netherlands Antilles on 20 April 2007 to elect the members of the island councils of its five island territories. They were the last regular island council elections before the dissolution of the Netherlands Antilles in 2010. The election was won by the Bonaire Patriotic Union (5 seats) in Bonaire, the Party for the Restructured Antilles (7 seats) in Curaçao, the Windward Islands People's Movement (4 seats) in Saba, the Democratic Party Statia (4 seats) in Sint Eustatius, and the Democratic Party (6 seats) in Sint Maarten. 2003 Netherlands Antilles Island Council Elections
Island council elections were held in the Netherlands Antilles on 9 May ( Bonaire and Curaçao) and 23 May 2003 (SSS islands) to elect the members of the island councils of its five island territories. The election was won by the Bonaire Patriotic Union (6 seats) in Bonaire, the Workers' Liberation Front (8 seats) in Curaçao, the Windward Islands People's Movement (3 seats) in Saba, the Democratic Party Statia (3 seats) in Sint Eustatius, and the Democratic Party (6 seats) in Sint Maarten. Democratic Party (Curaçao)
The Democratic Party ( pap, Partido Democraat, nl, Democratische Partij) is a liberal party in Curaçao founded in 1944. The party has participated in elections for the Estates of the Netherlands Antilles (Curaçao constituency) and the Island Council of Curaçao until the dissolution of the Netherlands Antilles in 2010, obtaining a single seat in the island council in 2007. By obtaining 1019 registrations of support, the party qualified (a minimum of 743 was required) for participation in the Curaçao General Election of 2012 on 19 October in a combined list with Laboral named Partido Democrat Laboral, where it obtained 1.2% of the votes but failed to obtain any seats. In the primary elections of 2016, the party received 1094 votes, again sufficient for participation, but did not end up winning any seats. Nelson Navarro
Nelson Navarro (born 19 January 1949) is a Curaçaoan jurist and politician. He was Minister of Justice of Curaçao from December 2012 to December 2016. Biography Navarro was born in 1949 and went to high school in Curaçao. In 1976 he earned a degree in Dutch law at the Leiden University in the Netherlands. He returned to Curaçao the same year to work as a paralegal at the Central Bureau of Judicial and General Affairs. Three years later he moved once again to the Netherlands to work as a civil servant at the tax service and to study about customs and tariffs. Once he finished the course he went to work at the Central Bureau of Judicial and General Affairs in Curaçao again. He became deputy-head of the organisation in 1982. He held this position until 1987. In 1987 he became a lawyer, and from that year until 2006 he worked at several law firms. Helmin Wiels
Helmin Magno Wiels (9 December 1958 – 5 May 2013) was a leftist politician, anti-corruption activist and social worker from Curaçao. He served as a chairman of Sovereign People (the largest political party in the Estates after the October 2012 election) and was a vocal campaigner for Curaçao's independence from the Kingdom of the Netherlands. Wiels was assassinated on 5 May 2013 following earlier written threats on his life. Elvis Kuwas, a hitman for the "No Limit Soldiers" drugs gang that had planned the assassination, was found guilty of three counts of murder (including that of Wiels) and was sentenced to life imprisonment in August 2014.
