French Television
Television in France was introduced in 1931, Timeline of the introduction of television in countries, when the first experimental broadcasts began. Colour television was introduced in October 1967 on France 2, La Deuxième Chaîne. Digital terrestrial television The digital terrestrial television platform was launched on 31 March 2005 after a short testing period. Like Freeview (UK), Freeview in the UK, it provides many new channels, as well as the current terrestrial television stations. Like the rest of Europe, France uses the DVB-T transmission technology. The 13 first digital free channels were launched on 31 March 2005. In October, 4 additional free channels were added: the 24h news channels BFM TV and I-Télé, the music and entertainment youth channel Europe 2 TV, and the free children channel Gulli, joint-venture between Lagardère Active and France Télévisions. ''Le Jour du Seigneur'' (English: The Day of God) is a France 2 religious programme that presents Christianity, usually broadcasting Catholic mass and services, amongst other things related to religion. Jacques Martin (TV Host)
Jacques Martin (22 June 1933 – 14 September 2007) was a French television host and producer. Life and career Martin was born in Lyon. In the late 1960s, he formed a comical duet of hosts on radio Europe 1 with French actor Jean Yanne. In the early 1970s, he was the sidekick of Danièle Gilbert, the host of ''Midi Première''. Martin created and hosted such popular satirical TV shows such as ''Le Petit Rapporteur'' ("The Little Snitch, 1975–1976, TF1) and ''La Lorgnette'' ("The Opera Glasses", 1976–1977, Antenne 2). He also tried a film career, writing and directing one film (''Na !'', 1973) and playing in others such as ''La Passante du Sans-Souci'', without great success. 5, Rue Sésame
''5, Rue Sésame'' is a French language children's television series based on the popular U.S. children's show ''Sesame Street'', aired by France 5. This series is the second Sesame Workshop co-production for France, the first being ''1, rue Sésame''. Seventy-five 26-minute-long episodes were created for the two seasons, directed by François Basset and Jul Mallard. The series is produced for France 5 by Expand-Drama with Sesame Workshop. The executive producer of the series is Georges Campana. The show debuted airing daily, Sunday to Friday at 6:30 am, and Saturdays at 7:00 am and 12:30 pm. ''Plus belle la vie'' (More beautiful life) is a French television soap opera based on an idea by Hubert Besson and characters created by Georges Desmouceaux, Bénédicte Achard, Magaly Richard-Serrano and Olivier Szulzynger. On air since 30 August 2004, it is currently shown on France 3 on Monday to Friday evenings at 8:15 p.m. The show began with 17 main actors and gained more later. ''Star Academy'' is a French reality television. It was produced by the Dutch company Endemol. It consists of a contest of young singers. It spawned an equally successful show in Canada called '' Star Académie''. It was broadcast on TF1 (2001–2008 and 2022) and NRJ 12 (2012). At the end of each season, selected contestants would go on tour around France, Morocco, Switzerland, Belgium, Tunisia, and other French-speaking countries. ''Sous le soleil'' (''Under the sun''; ) is a French soap opera broadcast on French major channel TF1 from 1996 to 2008. A spin-off, ''Sous le soleil de Saint-Tropez'' has been broadcast in French channel TMC since 2013. 30 millions d'amis (English: "30 million friends") is a French television program, a French monthly magazine with its posters, and a French foundation: the Fondation 30 Millions d'Amis. All three focus on pets, especially cats, dogs, horses, ferrets, rabbits, guinea pigs, rats, hamsters, mice, canaries, parakeets, parrots, terrarium reptiles, goldfish, aquarium fish, and other exotic pets, but also wild animals like for example, bonobos and cheetahs. Television program The first episode of the program, initiative of the French journalist Jean-Pierre Hutin, who was worried about the fate of pets, was broadcast on 6 January 1976 on TF1. ''Présence protestante'' is a France 2 religious programme that presents Protestant Christianity. It has been produced since the 1950s broadcast every Sunday morning since October 9, 1955. History Présence protestante debuted on October 2, 1955 which was presented by Marcel Gosselin, under the leadership of Marc Boegner who was the president of the Protestant Federation of France. It was broadcast RTF, it was originally titled Émission protestante, then it renamed the Présence protestante based on a similar french-speaking Swiss program. ''Sushi Pack'' is an animated action-adventure television series created by Studio Espinosa and developed by Tom Ruegger and Nicholas Hollander. Produced by DIC Entertainment Corporation and CloudCo, Inc. that aired for two seasons and 52 episodes on the KEWLopolis programming block of CBS from November 3, 2007 to February 28, 2009. This show, along with ''DinoSquad'', were the final two series produced by DIC before their acquisition with Cookie Jar Entertainment, who produced the second and final season of ''Sushi Pack'' until the series ended its run in 2009. Secret Story 1 (France)
''Secret Story 2007'' was the first edition of the French version of the reality show Big Brother carrying on from the previous similar show, Loft Story. It aired on TF1 and was presented by Benjamin Castaldi who had that role Loft Story. The series started on 23 June 2007, when 15 people entered a purpose-built house on the outskirts of Paris, France. Principle The principle is similar to that of Loft Story. The contestants are kept locked away for 10 weeks in a house, called ''"La Maison des Secrets"'' (the House of Secrets) measuring 1600 m² styled on the UK Big Brother 8 house including a swimming pool, jacuzzi, a lounge (where the bath is), bathroom with showers, and separate bathrooms for each sex.
