The 2007 Australia Day Honours are appointments to various orders and honours to recognise and reward good works by Australian citizens. Australian Honours System
The Australian honours and awards system refers to all Order (distinction), orders, decorations, and medals, as instituted by letters patent from the Monarchy of Australia, Monarch of Australia and countersigned by the Australian prime minister at the time, that have been progressively introduced since 14 February 1975. The Australian honours and awards system excludes all state and local government, and private, issued awards and medals (although a few can be recognised in the Australian Honours Order of Wearing, order of wearing, like those in the Order of Saint John (chartered 1888), Order of St John). Honours and awards have been present in Australia since pre-Federation of Australia, Federation, primarily from the Orders, decorations, and medals of the United Kingdom, Imperial honours and awards system. Margaret Gardner
Margaret Elaine Gardner (born 19 January 1954) is an Australian academic and long serving university leader who is the current Vice-Chancellor of Monash University, in office since 2014. She was previously Vice-Chancellor and President of RMIT University from 2005 to 2014, and has a background in economics. Education Gardner earned a Bachelor of Economics with first class honours from the University of Sydney, and later a PhD with a thesis on Australian industrial relations. Terence Clarke (composer)
Terence Osborne Clarke ( AM) (born 1935) is a retired Australian theatrical director and composer who also worked as an actor, pianist, musical director, teacher and dramaturg. On Australian Day 2007 he was installed as a Member of the Order of Australia for service to the performing arts as a director, actor, writer, composer and educator. Early life Clarke was born in 1935 in Sydney and educated at Shore and the University of Sydney (resident St. Paul's College), graduating BA with first-class honours in Music. While a student he appeared as Robert in the Sydney University Players' rendition of Peter Ustinov's play ''The Indifferent Shepherd'' in August 1953. Hilary Christiane Mary Charlesworth (born 28 February 1955) is an Australian international lawyer. She has been a Judge of the International Court of Justice since 5 November 2021, and is Harrison Moore Professor of Law and Melbourne Laureate Professor at the University of Melbourne, and Distinguished Professor at the Australian National University. Joy Baluch
Nancy Joy Baluch (10 October 1932 – 14 May 2013) was an Australian politician who served as Mayor of Port Augusta from 1981 to 1993 and from 1995 until her death. Her term as mayor of 29 years is believed to be an Australian record. Baluch was born in Port Augusta to George Budgen Copley and Jessie Stuart Copley, ''née'' Parker. She attended Cook and Port Augusta Primary Schools and Port Augusta High School. Frank Hollis Rivers Vincent (born 3 October 1937) is a retired Australian jurist, who was a Court of Appeals justice at the Supreme Court of Victoria from 2001 to 2009. He obtaining a Bachelor of Laws from the Melbourne University Law School. He was appointed Judge of the Supreme Court of Victoria on 30 April 1985, and elevated to the Court of Appeals in 2001. Anthony Allan Staley (born 15 May 1939) is an Australian politician. A member of the Liberal Party, he held the Victorian seat of Chisholm from 1970 to 1980 and served as Minister for the Capital Territory (1976–1977) and Minister for Posts and Telecommunications (1977–1980) in the Fraser government. Early life Packer was born Roslyn Redman Weedon in Wagga Wagga, the daughter of Doctor Stephen Hertford Weedon and socialite Phyllis Bragg. John Wayne Olsen, AO (born 7 June 1945) is a former Australian politician, diplomat and football commissioner. He was Premier of South Australia between 28 November 1996 and 22 October 2001.
