2007 Asian Basketball Championship
The 2007 FIBA Asia Championship for Men was the qualifying tournament for FIBA Asia at the men's basketball tournament at the 2008 Summer Olympics at Beijing. The tournament was held in Tokushima, Japan from July 28 to August 5, 2007. Participating teams qualified through the previous edition of this tournament and others through regional qualifiers. Since China is assured of an automatic berth at the 2008 Olympics as the host nation, the champions will automatically qualify while the two best teams excluding China qualifies for the 2008 FIBA World Olympic Qualifying Tournament for Men. This resulted in China deploying another team in this tournament, while their primary team led by NBA star Yao Ming and rookie Yi Jianlian participated in the Stankovic Cup and tournaments and friendlies with countries across Europe to prepare themselves. FIBA Stanković Continental Champions' Cup
The FIBA Stanković Continental Champions’ Cup, also known as the FIBA Mini Basketball World Cup, is an international tournament of basketball for men's national teams, that is held annually by the International Basketball Federation (FIBA). The idea for the tournament came from Dr. Carl Men Ky Ching, President of FIBA, and the purpose of the Cup was to honor Serbian Borislav Stanković, the FIBA Secretary General Emeritus, for his significant contribution to the world of basketball. Being the only Chinese President of the 28 International Sports Federations, Dr. Ching selected China as the host country for the Cup. The Cup is organised to promote basketball in that country, and to provide an opportunity for the China men's national basketball team, to compete with other top national teams from all around the world, at the highest level. Kerby Mariano Raymundo (born January 19, 1981) is a Filipino former professional basketball player. He last played for the Barangay Ginebra San Miguel of the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA). Known as The Kid, he was a former star player with the Letran Knights during his NCAA years. Amateur career It was only in Raymundo's junior year in Jose Rizal Institute (High school) that he started playing basketball. He was discovered by Eugenio "Boy" Romerica Abunda, Jr., a former Colegio de San Juan de Letran player and coach. Osama Mohd Fathi Daghles, commonly known by the nickname Sam Daghles (born September 18, 1979), is a Jordanian professional basketball player of Palestinian origin. He currently works as an assistant coach for the Rio Grande Valley Vipers of the NBA G League.
