2007 AFL Draft
The 2007 Australian Football League draft consisted of four opportunities for player acquisitions during the 2007/08 Australian Football League off-season. These were AFL trade week, trade week, the national draft, which was held on 24 November 2007, the pre-season draft and the rookie draft. Player movements Trades 2007 was the first year that clubs were allowed to trade picks without the trade involving a player. The trade week was headlined by the desire of West Coast premiership captain Chris Judd to return to Victoria, after six years with the club having been drafted to the Eagles in 2001 AFL draft, 2001. His departure created much attention and speculation among the Melbourne-based clubs, the media and the football community. Travis Johnstone
Travis Johnstone (born 17 July 1980) is an Australian rules footballer who has played for the Melbourne Football Club and Brisbane Lions in the Australian Football League (AFL). He is the grandson of former Fitzroy Lions player, Norm Johnstone. AFL career at Melbourne Johnstone was the first selection in the 1997 AFL Draft and made his debut in the 1998 season. Johnstone took time to develop into a star player for Melbourne, and for some time was criticised in the football media for underachieving as a number 1 draft selection. Sam Power
Sam Power (born 2 July 1983) is an Australian rules footballer who played in the Australian Football League (AFL). Power started his career at the Western Bulldogs. The Bulldogs selected him in the 2001 AFL Draft, with their first round selection, number 10 overall. Power made his debut in 2002, playing six games, and amassed 84 games in total over five years with the Bulldogs. After being unable to hold a consistent senior spot in the 2007 season, Power requested a trade. North Melbourne expressed interest and traded their draft pick number 48 in the 2007 AFL Draft in return for Power. Benjamin Davies (footballer)
Benjamin "Ben" Davies (born 10 February 1986) is an Australian rules footballer. From Williamstown, Davies played in the TAC Cup for the Western Jets. His courageous ability as an in-and-under player got his name on the list, and was drafted as a rookie by Collingwood in late 2004. His skills were ordinary, but Davies earned an unexpected promotion early on in the season for injured skipper Nathan Buckley who would be put on the long-term injury list. He made his Australian Football League (AFL) debut soon after in Round 7 against Fremantle at Subiaco Oval and showed he was a ball winner, having 14 touches in the first half. Timothy Callan (born 6 January 1984) is a former Australian rules football player for the Western Bulldogs, and the Geelong Football Club. He is the son of former Geelong player, Terry Callan. Ben Hudson
Ben Hudson (born 24 February 1979) is a former professional Australian rules footballer who played for the Adelaide Football Club, Western Bulldogs, Brisbane Lions and Collingwood Football Club in the Australian Football League (AFL). He has served as the defensive skills, ruck and forwards coach at the Brisbane Lions since September 2014. He was also the ruck coach for Collingwood after being selected as a mature age rookie player in the 2012 rookie draft. Charlie Gardiner (Australian Footballer)
Charles Gardiner (born 1 March 1983) is a former Australian rules footballer for Geelong and St Kilda in the Australian Football League. Career Gardiner was recruited from the Sandringham Zebras and was pick no. 23 by Geelong in the 2001 National Draft. Gardiner was in the TAC Cup Team of the Year and Under-18 All-Australian Team in 2001. Gardiner was also runners up in Sandringham's best & fairest and Under-18 Victoria Metro representative in 2001. In 2002 Gardiner debuted for Geelong's senior side later the same year. Gardiner was traded to St Kilda Football Club during the 2007 trade week, along with fellow Cats player Steven King for St Kilda's draft selection 90. Steven King (footballer)
Steven King (born 22 November 1978) is a former Australian rules footballer who played for the Geelong Football Club and St Kilda Football Club in the Australian Football League (AFL). He is currently working as an assistant coach at Geelong. Playing career Geelong (1996–2007) Debuting as a 17-year-old with Geelong in 1996, King was a gifted ruckman. He won All-Australian selection and won the Carji Greeves Medal in 2000 and again in 2002. He was captain of the club between 2003 and 2006. In 2005, King was hit by numerous injuries, which affected his form. Mitch Morton
Mitchell Morton (born 28 January 1987) is a former Australian rules football player who last played for the Sydney Swans in the Australian Football League (AFL). Career Morton was initially drafted by the West Coast Eagles under the father–son rule as he is the son of Noel Morton, who played 171 WAFL games for Claremont. At the end of the 2007 season, West Coast traded Morton to Richmond for the number 35 draft pick in the 2007 AFL draft. Morton was prominent and vital member of the Tigers squad, winning the Michael Roach medal as the leading goal kicker for the club this season (2009) with 41 goals. Sean Dempster
Sean Dempster (born 20 January 1984) is a former Australian rules footballer who played for the Sydney Swans and St Kilda Football Club in the Australian Football League (AFL). Early life Born in 1984, Dempster grew up in the Victorian town of Mallacoota. As there was no football club in the town, Dempster played junior football with the Snowy Rovers Football Club in Orbost. He later playing with Gippsland Power in the TAC Cup before being recruited by the Sydney Swans in the 2002 national AFL draft under the father–son rule – his father, Graham Dempster, having played 64 games for South Melbourne Football Club between 1972 and 1979. Adam Schneider
Adam Schneider (born 12 May 1984) is a former professional Australian rules footballer who played for the Sydney Swans and St Kilda Football Club in the Australian Football League (AFL). Henry Playfair
Henry Playfair (born 22 January 1983) is a former Australian rules footballer who played for the Geelong Football Club and Sydney Swans in the Australian Football League (AFL). Playfair grew up in and played his junior football with Holbrook in the Riverina region of New South Wales. Career Drafted by the Geelong Cats in the 2001 AFL Draft at pick number 41, he debuted in Round 15 of the 2003 season at Telstra Dome.
