The 2006 Yanjin earthquake occurred with a moment magnitude of 4.9 on July 22 at 01:10 UTC (09:10 local time). This destructive shock took place in Yanjin County, Yunnan, China. Twenty-two were killed and 106 were injured. Damage Eight people were killed as a result of houses (usually wooden) collapsing and fourteen were killed from other reasons. The moment magnitude scale (MMS; denoted explicitly with or Mw, and generally implied with use of a single M for magnitude) is a measure of an earthquake's magnitude ("size" or strength) based on its seismic moment.
