2006 Wales Rugby Union Tour Of Argentina
The 2006 Wales rugby union tour of Argentina was a series of matches played in June 2006 in Argentina by the Wales national rugby union team. Wales was managed by new coach Gareth Jenkins, nominated a month before to replace Mike Ruddock. Results First test The first test was played in Puerto Madryn, where there is a community of Welsh descent which was originally part of the Welsh settlement in Argentina in the second half of the 19th century. Gareth Jenkins
Gareth John James Jenkins (born 11 September 1951) is a former Wales, Welsh rugby union rugby player, and former head coach of the Wales national rugby union team, Welsh national team. After a long and distinguished career at Llanelli RFC, Jenkins was appointed Wales coach in 2006, succeeding Mike Ruddock. He was sacked by the Welsh Rugby Union on 30 September 2007, following Wales' failure to qualify for the quarter-finals of the 2007 Rugby World Cup. He left the role with just six wins from twenty test matches. Playing career Born in Burry Port, Jenkins played as a flanker for Llanelli RFC, Wales B side and the Barbarian F.C., Barbarians. Santiago Sanz
Santiago Sanz is a Paralympic athlete from Spain competing mainly in category T52 wheelchair racing events. Santiago has competed in four Paralympics, winning a total of four medals. At his debut in the 2000 Paralympics, he won a silver in the 5000m and bronze in the 800m, while also competing in the 1500m. He then competed in Athens for the 2004 Summer Paralympics, where he again won a silver and bronze, this time in the 1500m and 5000m, respectively. He also again competed in the 800m. Pablo Martin Gambarini (born 5 May 1980) is an Argentine former professional rugby union player who played as a hooker. Born in Tucumán Province, he played for Universitario Rugby Club de Tucumán before joining Club Atlético San Isidro (CASI) at the age of 9. Francisco Leonelli
Francisco Leonelli (born 3 May 1978) is an Argentine rugby union footballer, currently playing for Saracens F.C. in the Guinness Premiership. He has represented the Argentina national team, having previously playing for the under-19s and under-21s Argentina sides. His usual position is at fullback though he also plays on the wing. He played for Argentina during their two Test series win over Wales at home in June 2006, including scoring a try in the 27 to 25 victory. Marcos Ayerza (born January 12, 1983 in Buenos Aires) is a former Argentine rugby union rugby player who played loose-head prop for the Leicester Tigers and his national team. His passion and aggression on the field earned him the nickname "El Toro" (The Bull). Rodrigo Roncero
Rodrigo Roncero, also known as "RoRo", uncle of Mateo Morrone, alias Morronzero, Morroculo o Duketto, (born 16 February 1977, in Buenos Aires), is a retired Argentine former rugby union player. The last team in which he played was Stade Français in the Top 14. He has also played for Gloucester Rugby in the Guinness Premiership from 2002 to 2004. Mario Ledesma Arocena (born 17 May 1973 in Buenos Aires) is an Argentine rugby union coach and a former international rugby player. He played in Argentina's successful 2007 Rugby World Cup campaign and had a professional playing career in France spanning 10 years. Carlos Ignacio Fernández Lobbe
Carlos Ignacio Fernández Lobbe (born 20 November 1974 in Buenos Aires) is a retired Argentine rugby union player. He last played with English side, Bath Rugby in the Aviva Premiership. He has also represented Argentina on numerous occasions, including at the 1999, 2003 and 2007 Rugby World Cups. He previously played for Sale Sharks, Castres, Bordeaux and the Liceo Naval club, moving to Northampton Saints for the 2008–09 season, where he made his debut against Worcester Warriors.
