Crown Honours Lists
Crown Honours Lists are lists of honours conferred upon citizens of the Commonwealth realms. The awards are presented by or in the name of the reigning monarch, currently King Charles III, or his vice-regal representative. New Year Honours Honours have been awarded at New Year since at least 1890, in which year a list of Queen Victoria's awards was published in ''The London Gazette'' on 2 January. There was no honours list at New Year 1902, as a list had been published on the new King's birthday the previous November, but from January 1903 until 1909 a list (including only Indian orders) was published. The other orders were announced on the King's birthday in November. Australia has discontinued New Year Honours, and now announces its honours on Australia Day, 26 January, and the King's Official Birthday holiday, in early June. Queen's Service Order
The Queen's Service Order, established by royal warrant of Queen Elizabeth II on 13 March 1975, is used to recognise "valuable voluntary service to the community or meritorious and faithful services to the Crown or similar services within the public sector, whether in elected or appointed office". This order was created after a review of New Zealand's honours system in 1974. The Queen's Service Order replaced the Imperial Service Order in New Zealand. Peter Cartwright (lawyer)
Peter John Cartwright (3 May 1940 – 17 April 2019) was a New Zealand lawyer and, as the husband of Silvia CartwDame Silvia Cartwright, viceregal consort of New Zealand between 2001 and 2006. Early life and career Born in Dunedin on 3 May 1940, Cartwright was the son of James Patrick Cartwright and Gladys Josephine Cartwright (née Laffey). He was educated as a boarder at St Bede's College, Christchurch, St Bede's College in Christchurch, and then studied law at the University of Otago from 1960 to 1965, graduating with a Bachelor of Laws. He went on to become a partner in a law firm in Hamilton, New Zealand, Hamilton as a commercial lawyer. Cartwright served on the boards of IHC New Zealand and the Donald Beasley Institute, and was chair of the latter for several years. He also chaired the Medical Practitioners Disciplinary Tribunal, the Indecent Publications Tribunal and the Broadcasting Standards Authority, was a member of the Accident Compensation Appeal Authority, and pat ... Silvia Cartwright
Dame Silvia Rose Cartwright (née Poulter; born 7 November 1943) is a New Zealand jurist who served as the 18th Governor-General of New Zealand, from 2001 to 2006. She was the second woman to hold the office, after Dame Catherine Tizard. Early life Cartwright is a former student at Otago Girls' High School, and is a graduate of the University of Otago, where she gained her Bachelor of Laws degree in 1967. Public life Legal career In 1989, Cartwright became the first female Chief District Court Judge, and in 1993 she was the first woman to be appointed to the High Court. Cartwright presided over a 1988 inquiry into issues related to cervical cancer and its treatment at Auckland's National Women's Hospital, known as the Cartwright Inquiry.
