2006 Scheldeprijs
The 2006 Scheldeprijs was the 94th edition of the Scheldeprijs road cycling one day race, held on 12 April 2006 as part of the 2005–06 UCI Europe Tour, as a 1.HC categorised race. Belgian rider Tom Boonen, in the rainbow jersey as the incumbent world champion, won the race in a bunch sprint for the team, ahead of teammate Steven de Jongh, while compatriot Gert Steegmans () completed the podium. Boonen was the first incumbent world champion to win the race since Eddy Merckx in 1972. Teams Twenty-one teams were invited to take part in the race. The 2005–06 UCI Europe Tour was the second season of the UCI Europe Tour. The season began on 16 October 2005 with the Chrono des Nations and ended on 12 October 2006 with the Giro del Piemonte. The points leader, based on the cumulative results of previous races, wears the UCI Europe Tour cycling jersey. Murilo Fischer of Brazil was the defending champion of the 2005 UCI Europe Tour. Jeremy Hunt (born 12 March 1974) is a British former road racing cyclist who raced for numerous years mainly a sprinter. Hunt was the winner of the British National Road Race Championships in 1997 and 2001. He now works as a directeur sportif for UCI Continental team . Career Hunt was born in Canada and grew up in England, firstly in Bury before moving to Devon. His father had been an amateur racing cyclist, and as a teenager in Devon Hunt was coached by former Tour de France rider Colin Lewis. He pursued his career in northern France before turning professional.
