2006 Real Salt Lake Season
The 2006 Real Salt Lake season was the second season of the team's existence. The team has some improvement over the previous season. However, despite mixed results on the field, RSL scored a huge victory off the field in 2006. After much controversy and debate, the franchise finally secured a guarantee for a state-of-the-art, soccer-specific stadium to be built in Sandy – a suburb of Salt Lake City. The team broke ground for the structure on the morning of August 12, with representatives from soccer giant Real Madrid present. That evening, RSL faced its namesake in front of a sellout crowd of 45,511 fans at Rice-Eccles Stadium. Salt Lake made a good showing, but Real Madrid won the exhibition match, 2-0. Real Salt Lake
Real Salt Lake, often shortened to RSL, is an American professional soccer franchise based in the Salt Lake City metropolitan area. The club competes as a member club of Major League Soccer (MLS) in the Western Conference. RSL began play in 2005 as an expansion team of the league. The club was founded in 2004 when the club's first owner and founder was awarded an expansion berth in Major League Soccer. The club plays its home games at America First Field, a soccer-specific stadium located in the Salt Lake City suburb of Sandy, Utah, which they shared with their sister team, Utah Royals FC. Before moving to America First, RSL previously played home games at Rice-Eccles Stadium, located on the campus of the University of Utah, from 2005 to 2007. Nelson Akwari
Nelson Ndukwe Akwari (born February 4, 1982, in Houston, Texas) is a retired American soccer player. He began his career with the United States national team youth academy in Bradenton, Florida, and played for several professional clubs in various U.S. leagues. Career Youth and College Akwari attended Strake Jesuit College Preparatory, a private school in Houston, before attending USSF's Bradenton Academy, where he trained with other Under-17 national teamers like Landon Donovan, DaMarcus Beasley, and Bobby Convey. Although he considered turning pro, Akwari instead went to UCLA to play college soccer. He stayed at UCLA two years, starting every game as a freshman in 2000, and being named second-team All-Pac-10 as a sophomore. Kevin Novak
Kevin Novak (born September 1, 1982 in Los Angeles, California) is an American soccer defender, who played two seasons for Real Salt Lake in Major League Soccer and one for the Rochester Raging Rhinos of the USL First Division. Novak grew up in southern California, attending Mater Dei High School in Santa Ana. He then attended Loyola Marymount University, majoring in finance and marketing. He played soccer at Loyola Marymount from 2000 to 2003. In four seasons he appeared in 60 matches, scoring 23 goals. He graduated in 2004. Although he missed the 2004 MLS SuperDraft due to a knee injury, he spent the year rehabilitating and training. Jay Nolly
Jay Nolly (born January 2, 1982) is an American former soccer player who played as a goalkeeper. College Nolly played college soccer at Indiana University, where he backstopped the Hoosiers to the College Cup in 2003 and 2004 and was named All-Big Ten in his last three seasons. Professional career Real Salt Lake drafted Nolly in the second round of the 2005 MLS SuperDraft and he saw limited action with the team in his rookie season. After the 2006 season, he was dealt to D.C. United in a deal that involved Freddy Adu and Nick Rimando. Chris Klein (born January 4, 1976, in St. Louis, Missouri) is an American former soccer player who spent 13 seasons in Major League Soccer and earned 23 caps with the United States men's national soccer team. Currently, he is the President of LA Galaxy, promoted on January 28, 2013, from vice president. Klein spent the entirety of his 12-year professional career playing in Major League Soccer, for the Kansas City Wizards, Real Salt Lake and Los Angeles Galaxy, winning the MLS Cup and Supporters' Shield with Kansas City in 2000, and the Supporters' Shield with Los Angeles in 2010, his last year as a professional. Willis Forko
Willis Forko (12 November 1983 – 8 November 2021) was a Liberian professional footballer who played as a left-back. Career Youth and college Although born in Liberia, Forko and his family moved to Houston, Texas when he was three years old. Willis attended Cy-Springs High School in Cypress, TX where he graduated in 2002. He began his collegiate soccer career at the University of South Carolina in 2002. He played one season there before transferring to the University of Connecticut. At UConn he appeared in 65 matches, notching three goals and 15 assists, and was twice named to the Third Team All Big East. Kenny Cutler
Kenny Cutler (born March 8, 1982 in Richmond, Virginia) is a former American soccer player who last played for Richmond Kickers in the USL Second Division. Career College Cutler attended IMG Academy in Bradenton, Florida, and played college soccer at Clemson University, where registered 10 goals and 12 assists in 79 appearances, notched three goals and three assists during his senior campaign, and earned First Team All-Atlantic Coast Conference honors in 2003. Atiba Erasto Harris (born 9 January 1985) is a Kittitian football administrator and former professional footballer. He captained the Saint Kitts and Nevis national team. As of August 2021, he serves as President of the St. Kitts and Nevis Football Association. Chris Brown (American Soccer)
Chris Brown (born March 10, 1977 in Portland, Oregon) is an American soccer midfielder and forward who last played for Portland Timbers of USL-1. Youth Brown is an alumnus of Jesuit High School in Portland Oregon where he played soccer under the guidance of Dave Nicholas, varsity coach for the Crusaders. Brown played college soccer at the University of Portland from 1995 to 1998, scoring a total of 33 goals in his four years there, and being awarded for the MAC Award as a senior. Mehdi Ballouchy ( ar, مهدي بلوشي; born April 6, 1983) is a retired Moroccan professional footballer who played as a midfielder. He is currently one of the coaching staff for New York City FC. Jason Kreis
Jason Clarence Kreis (born December 29, 1972) is an American soccer coach and former player who currently serves as an assistant coach for MLS club Inter Miami CF and as head coach of the United States under-23 team. He coached Orlando City SC in Major League Soccer and was previously an assistant coach under Jürgen Klinsmann for the United States men's national soccer team. Prior to that he was the head coach of New York City FC and Real Salt Lake. Joey Worthen (born December 3, 1979 in Salt Lake City, Utah) is a former United States, American association football, soccer player and the current head coach of the Florida Atlantic Owls men's soccer program. Career College and amateur Worthen attended Cottonwood High School (Utah), Cottonwood High School where he was named to the Parade (magazine), Parade High School All-America soccer team in 1998.
