Michigan House Of Representatives
The Michigan House of Representatives is the lower house of the Michigan Legislature. There are 110 members, each of whom is elected from constituencies having approximately 77,000 to 91,000 residents, based on population figures from the 2010 U.S. Census. Its composition, powers and duties are established in Article IV of the Michigan Constitution. Members are elected in even-numbered years and take office at 12 p.m. (EST) on January 1 following the November general election. Concurrently with the Michigan Senate, the House first convenes on the second Wednesday in January, according to the state constitution. Each member is limited to serving three terms of two years. The House meets in the north wing of the Michigan Capitol in Lansing. The Republican Party currently has a majority in the chamber. Steve Tobocman
Steven Tobocman (born January 27, 1970) is a politician from the state of Michigan. He served two terms in the Michigan House of Representatives. Because of state law on term limits, he could not run for a succeeding third term. A Democrat, he represented the 12th district in Southwest Detroit. Tobocman was elected by his party to be the Democratic Floor Leader for the 2007-2008 legislative session. He expressed his support for candidate Rashida Tlaib from Detroit as his successor. She won the seat, becoming the first Muslim woman to serve in the Michigan state legislature. Political career Tobocman was elected to office in 2002. Morris Hood
Morris W. Hood III (May 21, 1965 – May 11, 2020) was an American politician who served as a member of the Michigan Senate. He represented District 3, encompassing Dearborn, Melvindale, and a portion of Detroit from 2011 to 2018. Early life and education Hood was born in Detroit. He went to Wayne State University and Henry Ford College. Hood was the son of Morris Hood Jr. and the nephew of Raymond W. Hood. Career Prior to his election to the Legislature, Hood was an Production technician at Ford Motor Company's Dearborn Engine & Fuel Tank Plant. He was an unsuccessful candidate for the House in 1998. Gabriel Leland (born September 28, 1982) is a convicted criminal and former Democratic politician from the state of Michigan.
