2006 Israeli Labor Party Primary
Since the 1992 Israeli legislative election, the Israeli Labor Party has selected its party lists through primary elections in which party members are eligible to participate. This has been the case in all elections since 1992, with the exceptions of the September 2019 and 2020 legislative elections, in which the party based its party list off of the results of the primary previously held in advance of the April 2019 legislative election. Labor's practice of using primaries to determine their party list is unusual among parties in Israel. In Israel, most parties instead decide their party lists either through a nomination committee or by prerogative of the party leaders. 1992 Israeli Legislative Election
Elections for the 13th Knesset were held in Israel on 23 June 1992. The election resulted in the formation of a Labor government, led by Yitzhak Rabin, helped by the failure of several small right wing parties to pass the electoral threshold. Voter turnout was 77.4%. Results Aftermath Labour's Yitzhak Rabin formed the twenty-fifth government on 13 July 1992, including Meretz and Shas in his coalition, which had 17 ministers. Avishay Braverman
Avishay Braverman ( he, אבישי ברוורמן, born 15 January 1948) is an economics professor, politician, and Israeli public figure. Having held senior positions as economist at the World Bank, he was later elected as fifth president of the Ben-Gurion University of the Negev (1990-2006). As a Knesset member on behalf of the Labor Party (2006-2015) he served as Minister of Minority Affairs, Chairman of the Knesset Finance Committee and Chairman of the Knesset Economic Affairs Committee. Hili Tropper
Yehiel Moshe "Hili" Tropper ( he, יְחִיאֵל מֹשֶׁה "חִילִי" טְרוֹפֵּר; born 22 April 1978) is an Israeli educator, social worker and politician. He is currently a member of the Knesset for National Unity and served as Minister of Culture and Sports from 2020 to 2022. Biography Tropper was born in Jerusalem, one of nine children of Rabbi Daniel Tropper. During his national service in the Israel Defense Forces, he was part of the Duvdevan Unit. He subsequently became a social worker and earned a BA in humanities from the Open University and an MA in Jewish history and education from the Lander Institute. Daniel Ben-Simon
Daniel Ben-Simon ( he, דניאל בן סימון, born 29 April 1954) is an Israeli journalist and politician, who served as a member of the Knesset for the Labor Party between 2009 and 2013. Biography Born in Meknes in Morocco, Ben-Simon made aliyah to Israel in 1969. He did his national service in the Golani Brigade between 1972 and 1976. He later attended the University of Haifa, where he gained a BA in Sociology and political science, and Boston University, where he gained an MSc in journalism. He worked for ''Davar'' for over a decade and later for '' Haaretz''. He taught journalism at Sapir College and Rupin College and also wrote four books, and was involved in the making of documentary films based on two of his books. Yona Yahav
Yona Yahav ( he, יונה יהב, born 19 June 1944) is an Israeli lawyer and politician. He was formerly a member of the Knesset for the Labor Party. Yahav was the mayor of Haifa between 2003 and 2018. In the 2018 Haifa mayoral election, he lost to Einat Kalisch-Rotem. Biography Yahav was born in Haifa during the period of the Mandate era. During his national service he reached the rank of lieutenant colonel in the Military Police Corps of the IDF. Nino Abesadze
Nino Abesadze ( he, נינו אבסדזה; ka, ნინო აბესაძე, born 12 April 1965) is an Israeli politician and journalist who served as a member of the Knesset for Kadima between 2009 and 2013. Biography Born in Tbilisi in the Soviet Union (today in Georgia) to a Georgian Christian father and Russian-Jewish mother, Abesadze graduated from the Film School at the Open University of Georgia, before studying for degrees in Russian literature and linguistics at Tbilisi State University. Nadia Hilou
Nadia Hilou ( ar, ناديا حلو, he, נאדיה חילו; 5 July 1953 – 27 February 2015) was an Arab-Israeli social worker and politician, who served as a member of the Knesset for the Labor Party between 2006 and 2009. She was the second female Israeli Arab MK after Hussniya Jabara, and also the first female Christian MK. Biography Hilou was born in Jaffa, Israel, to Christian Arab parents. Raleb Majadele ( ar, غالب مجادلة, Levantine Arabic: ; he, ראלב מג'אדלה, ; also spelt Ghaleb Majadele, born 5 April 1953) is an Israeli Arab politician. He served as a member of the Knesset for the Labor Party in three spells between 2004 and 2015, and became the country's first Muslim minister when appointed Minister without Portfolio on 28 January 2007. Danny Atar
Daniel "Danny" Atar ( he, דניאל "דני" עטר, born 5 January 1958) is an Israeli politician. Biography Daniel Atar was born in Afula, Israel, to Jewish parents who had immigrated from Morocco in 1956. During his IDF national service he served in the Golani Brigade. He fought in the 1982 Lebanon War. He continued to serve in the army reserves, becoming a lieutenant colonel. Moshe Mizrahi ( he, משה מזרחי; 20 September 1950 – 11 December 2022) was a senior Israel Police official and a member of Knesset for the Labor Party (2013–2015) and Zionist Union (2018–2019). Nachman Shai ( he, נחמן שי; born Nachman Shaykevich on 28 November 1946) is an Israeli journalist and politician serving as Israel's Minister of Diaspora Affairs.
