2006 Indiana Secretary Of State Election
The 2006 Indiana Elections was held on November 7, 2006, as part of the 2006 midterm elections. Republicans maintained their Indiana Senate seat, Democrats retook the majority in the congressional delegation but maintained a hold on all statewide offices up for election United States Senate Incumbent Richard Lugar did not face an opponent from the Democratic Party, and faced Libertarian Steve Osborne Exit polls and polling data showed that he would win by a huge margin - which he did. Richard Lugar
Richard Green Lugar (April 4, 1932 – April 28, 2019) was an American politician who served as a United States Senator from Indiana from 1977 to 2013. He was a member of the Republican Party. Born in Indianapolis, Lugar graduated from Denison University and the University of Oxford. He served on the Indianapolis Board of School Commissioners from 1964 to 1967 before he was elected to two terms as mayor of Indianapolis, serving from 1968 to 1976. The Libertarian Party of Indiana is the Indiana affiliate of the Libertarian Party. History and operations The founding meeting of the Libertarian Party of Indiana was held on July 14, 1974, at the Holiday Inn at Weir Cook Airport (now called the Indianapolis International Airport). Theodore Edward Rokita (born February 9, 1970) is an American lawyer and politician serving as the 44th and current Attorney General of Indiana. Birch Evans Bayh III ( ; born December 26, 1955) is an American lawyer, lobbyist, and Democratic Party politician who served as a United States senator from Indiana from 1999 to 2011 and the 46th governor of Indiana from 1989 to 1997. Frank Lewis O'Bannon (January 30, 1930 – September 13, 2003) was an American politician who served as the 47th governor of Indiana from 1997 until his death in 2003. As of October 2022, he remains the most recent United States Governor to have died in office. O'Bannon was a native of Corydon, Indiana. Joseph Eugene Kernan III (April 8, 1946 – July 29, 2020) was an American businessman and Democratic politician who served as the 48th governor of Indiana from 2003 to 2005. He previously served as the 47th lieutenant governor of Indiana from 1997 to 2003 under Frank O'Bannon and succeeded the governorship after O'Bannon's death. Kernan had also served nearly a year as a prisoner of war during the Vietnam War. After graduating from the University of Notre Dame, Kernan joined the Navy in 1969.
