2006 IBF World Championships
The 2006 IBF World Championships, the 15th tournament of the World Badminton Championships, was held in Madrid, the capital of Spain, from September 18 to 24, 2006. Host city selection Aarhus (Denmark) and Madrid (Spain) were the candidates for hosting the championships. During the 2004 IBF council meeting held in Jakarta, it was announced that Madrid will host the championships. Palacio De Deportes De La Comunidad De Madrid
Palacio de Deportes de la Comunidad de Madrid (English: ''Sports Palace of the Regional Community of Madrid''), officially WiZink Center since November 2016 for sponsorship reasons, is an indoor sporting arena located in Madrid, Spain. The former building, which was built in 1960, was destroyed by a fire in 2001. Architects Enrique Hermoso and Paloma Huidobro projected a ''High-Tech'' style new arena that was built at the same location between 2002 and 2005. The arena hosted two major international basketball events in the first decade of the 21st century - the knockout stage of EuroBasket 2007 and the EuroLeague's Final Four 2008. Chen Hong (badminton)
Chen Hong (; born November 28, 1979 in Changting County, Fujian) is a former Chinese badminton player. Career During the first several years of the 21st century Chen rated among the world's leading singles players, achieving a number one world ranking in 2002–2003. He won the Swedish Open and the Asian Championships in 1999 as a nineteen-year-old. His subsequent titles included the Dutch (2000), Singapore (2002, 2003), Denmark (2002, 2006), Malaysia (2003), China (2005, 2006), and Thailand (2007) Opens. He twice captured the prestigious All-England Championships, 2002 and 2005, defeating his very formidable fellow countryman Lin Dan in the final on the second occasion. Martin Lundgaard Hansen
Martin Lundgaard Hansen (born 11 October 1972) is a badminton player from Denmark. He started his career in badminton as a singles player, and competed in the 1993 IBF World Championships. But as the years went by, he made a choice to play doubles. Teamed-up with Lars Paaske, they emerged as the men's doubles champion at the 1999, 2001 Denmark Open, and in 2000, he and Paaske participated at the Olympic Games. The career highlights for Hansen was when he partnered with Jens Eriksen. The duo won the 2004 and 2006 All England Open, won gold at the European Championships, and was at the time a half years as No.1 in the world. Jens Eriksen
Jens Dyrløv Eriksen (born 30 December 1969) is a badminton player from Denmark. He competed in four consecutive Olympic Games from 1996 to 2008, and won a mixed doubles bronze medal in 2004 partnered with Mette Schjoldager. At the World Championships, Eriksen won two silvers in 1995 and 1997, and also two bronze medals in 2001 and 2006. Robert Blair (badminton)
Robert Blair (born 7 August 1981) is a Scottish badminton player. Blair was born in Scotland, but after attending Loughborough University in Leicestershire, he competed for England from 2001 until 2010, except at the Olympic Games, where Scotland and England are both parts of the Great Britain and Northern Ireland team. His main motivation for changing nation was the prospect of medals at the Commonwealth Games. On 16 December 2010 Badminton England and Badminton Scotland announced that Blair would be returning to Scotland. Anthony Clark (badminton)
Anthony Ian Clark (born 1 November 1977) is an English former badminton player. He is a mixed and men's doubles silver medalists at the 2006 World Championships. Clark won the mixed doubles title at the 2008 European Championships, and was part of the England winning team at the 2002 Commonwealth Games. Huaiwen Xu (; born 2 August 1975) is a German badminton player. Zhang Ning
Zhang Ning (; born 19 May 1975) is a former Chinese badminton player. She won the Olympic gold medal twice for women's singles in both 2004 and 2008. She has played badminton on the world scene since the mid-1990s and has been particularly successful since 2002 while in her late twenties and early thirties, relatively late for singles at the highest level, and especially for top players in the Chinese system who are developed very early.
