The 2006 GP Ouest-France, the 70th edition of the GP Ouest-France, took place on August 27, 2006 in the French region of Brittany, in a race in and around the village of Plouay. Previously unheralded Vincenzo Nibali stunned the field with his victory, outsprinting Juan Antonio Flecha to take his first major win. 2006 UCI ProTour
The 2006 UCI ProTour was the second year of the UCI ProTour system, in which the ProTour teams are guaranteed, and obliged to, participate in the series of ProTour races. Yaroslav Popovych ( uk, Ярослав Попович; born 4 January 1980) is a Ukrainian former professional cyclist, who rode professionally between 2002 and 2016. The winner of the under-23 road race at the 2001 UCI Road World Championships, Popovych turned professional in 2002 with , where he performed particularly strongly in the Giro d'Italia, finishing third in 2003. Upon joining in 2005, his focus switched to the Tour de France, where he won the young riders' classification in 2005 and won stage 12 in 2006. Pierrick Fédrigo (born 30 November 1978) is a French former racing cyclist, who rode professionally between 2002 and 2016 for the , , and teams. He was the winner of the French National Road Race Championships in 2005, and won four stages at the Tour de France. Career Fédrigo won 4 stages of the Tour de France: Stage 14 at Gap in 2006, Stage 9 at Tarbes in 2009, and two stages in Pau: Stage 16 of the 2010 race, and Stage 15 of the 2012 edition. In the 2010 edition, he was part of a select group that conquered two Hors Catégorie climbs and two Category one climbs. He battled it out with his seven breakaway companions in the final sprint, which included Lance Armstrong, and prevailed. He is an all-round rider, known for his aggressive style of riding, whose speciality is to pick the right breakaways. He competed at the 1996 Summer Olympics and the 2000 Summer Olympics. Plouay
Plouay (; ) is a commune in the Morbihan department in Brittany in north-western France. Plouay hosts the GP Ouest-France and the GP de Plouay, annual cycling races (a men's and women's race, respectively). It was also the location of the UCI Road World Championships in 2000.
