2006 European Cross Country Championships
The 13th European Cross Country Championships were held at San Giorgio su Legnano in Italy on 10 December 2006. Mo Farah took the title in the men's competition, while Tetyana Holovchenko won the women's race. The European Athletic Association (more commonly known as European Athletics) is the governing body for Sport of athletics, athletics in Europe. Mariya Konovalova
Mariya Ivanovna Konovalova (russian: Мария Ивановна Коновалова; born Mariya Pantyukhova on 14 August 1974 in Angarsk) is a Russian long-distance runner. She has represented Russia in both track running and cross country running and was the silver medallist at the 2006 European Cross Country Championships. She has competed at the World Championships in Athletics on four occasions, and ran for Russia at the 2008 Beijing Olympics. Konovalova began competing in marathon races in 2010, making her debut at the 2010 London Marathon, but her result there and at all subsequent marathons in her career were annulled following her two-year ban for doping issued in 2015. Ruggero Pertile (born 8 August 1974 in Camposampiero) is an Italian long-distance runner who specialises in marathon running. He was the winner of the 2004 Rome City Marathon and has represented Italy internationally at three World Championships in Athletics and two Olympic Games. Chris Thompson (athlete)
Christopher Thompson (born 17 April 1981) is a British long-distance runner, who won the silver medal in the 10,000 metres at the 2010 European Athletics Championships in Barcelona, on 27 July 2010 behind his compatriot Mo Farah. Prior to his 2010 medal win he had won the European U23 5000 m Championship in 2003. However he was initially unable to build on this victory, as he had substantial injury problems for a number of years. He is currently coached by Alan Storey. Thompson ran at the 2010 Great Yorkshire Run in September and came close to victory, but was edged out by a second by Australian Craig Mottram.
