2006 European Athletics Championships – Men's 100 Metres
The men's 100 metres at the 2006 European Athletics Championships were held at the Ullevi on August 7 and August 8. Portugal's Francis Obikwelu added the European title to his Olympic Games silver medal in Athens. The 27-year-old was all but last out of the blocks but showed his class with a brilliant surge of pace to finish in 9.99 seconds - the first time the European title has been won with a sub-10 second time. The 19th European Athletics Championships were held in Gothenburg, Sweden, between 7 August and 13 August 2006. The competition arena was the Ullevi Stadium and the official motto "Catch the Spirit". Mark Lewis-Francis
Mark Anthony Lewis-Francis, MBE (born 4 September 1982) is a retired British track and field athlete, specifically a sprinter, who specialised in the 100 metres and was an accomplished regular of GB 4 x 100m relay. A renowned junior, his greatest sporting achievement at senior level has been to anchor the Great Britain and Northern Ireland 4 x 100 metres relay team to a gold medal at the 2004 Summer Olympics. Individually, Lewis-Francis has won the silver medal in the 100 m at the 2010 European Athletics Championships and silver medal in the 2010 Commonwealth Games, Men's 100m final and numerous indoor medals. Lewis-Francis is a member of the Birchfield Harriers athletics club and is also known as the "Darlaston Dart". Marcin Jędrusiński
Marcin Jędrusiński (born 28 September 1981) is a Polish former sprint athlete. Jędrusiński represented Poland at the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing and the 2004 Olympics in Athens. He competed at the 4x100 metres relay together with Dariusz Kuc, Lukasz Chyla and Marcin Andrzej Nowak. In their qualification heat they did not finish due to a mistake in the baton exchange and they were eliminated. At the individual 200 metres he qualified second in his first round heat behind Shawn Crawford in a time of 20.64 seconds. He improved his time in the second round to 20.58 seconds, but only finished fourth behind Brendan Christian, Churandy Martina and Kristof Beyens. His time was not enough to advance to the semi-finals.
