The Cook County, Illinois, general election was held on November 7, 2006. Primaries were held March 21, 2006. Elections were held for Assessor, Clerk, Sheriff, Treasurer, President of the Cook County Board of Commissioners, all 17 seats of the Cook County Board of Commissioners, Cook County Board of Review districts 1 and 2, three seats on the Water Reclamation District Board, judgeships in the Circuit Court of Cook County. The primaries and general elections for Cook County races coincided with those for congressional and those for state elections. Cook County, Illinois
Cook County is the most populous county in the U.S. state of Illinois and the second-most-populous county in the United States, after Los Angeles County, California. More than 40% of all residents of Illinois live within Cook County. As of 2020, the population was 5,275,541. Its county seat is Chicago, the most populous city in Illinois and the third-most-populous city in the United States. Anthony J. "Tony" Peraica (born April 14, 1957) is an American politician from Chicago, Illinois. He was the Cook County Commissioner for the 16th district, and was the unsuccessful Republican nominee for Cook County treasurer in 1998, for president of the Cook County Board of Commissioners in 2006, for Cook County state's attorney in 2008, and for Cook County clerk in 2022. Life Peraica was born in Croatia in 1957, and was orphaned at the age of 11. He came to the United States when he was 13. He lived in Bridgeport, Chicago with his aunt and uncle. Todd Stroger
Todd H. Stroger (born January 14, 1963) is the former president of the Cook County, Illinois Board and a former alderman for the 8th Ward in Chicago. Stroger is a member of the Democratic Party. In 2001, he was appointed to the Chicago City Council by Richard M. Daley. He is the son of John Stroger who served as Cook County Board president for 12 years until his death. On February 2, 2010, Stroger finished last in the Democratic primary for President of the Cook County Board behind Dorothy A. Brown, Terrence J. Maria Pappas is an American attorney, Greek American, and politician who has served as the Cook County Treasurer since 1998. Prior to that, she served two terms on the Cook County Board of Commissioners; first as one of ten members elected from Chicago and then, after the board moved to single-member constituencies, as the member from the 10th district. Early life Pappas was born June 7, 1949 in Warwood, a neighborhood of Wheeling, West Virginia, to first generation Greek American parents. She earned a bachelor's degree in sociology from West Liberty State College and a master's degree in counseling at West Virginia University. Thomas J. Dart (born May 22, 1962) is an American attorney, politician, and law enforcement officer serving as the Sheriff of Cook County, Illinois. He previously served as a member of both chambers of the Illinois General Assembly. Education Dart graduated from Mount Carmel High School, Chicago. He earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in history and general social studies from Providence College and a Juris Doctor from Loyola University Chicago.
