2006 British GT Season
The 2006 British GT season consisted of a fourteen-round series of sports car racing in the British GT Championship. The season consisted of two 2-hour enduros at Donington Park and Silverstone Silverstone is a village and civil parish in Northamptonshire, England. It is about from Towcester on the former A43 main road, from the M1 motorway junction 15A and about from the M40 motorway junction 10, Northampton, Milton Keynes and B ..., with 4 other double 1 hour-race events held in England, 2 in France (held alongside the FFSA GT Championship) and 1 in Ireland. It was contested by GT2 cars, the renamed GT3 class (now GTC), and a new GT3 class conforming with new FIA regulations. British GT Championship
The British GT Championship is a sports car racing series based predominantly in the United Kingdom. The series was originally created by the British Racing Drivers' Club in 1993 and, for its first two seasons, was known as the National Sports GT Challenge. The series is currently run by the Stéphane Ratel Organisation, while Pirelli began its first season as the championship's official sole tyre supplier in 2016. Two classes currently compete in the championship: GT3 and GT4. A consolidation of GT regulations and significant manufacturer support saw British GT first introduce a GT3 class in 2005. The category later mirrored FIA Group GT3 and used near-identical regulations to the FIA GT3 European Championship from 2006 onwards. GT3 rules include extensive Balance of Performance and handicap weights to make cars artificially more equal. Jonny Cocker
Jonathan Cocker (born 24 August 1986) is a British racing driver. In 2012 he won the ELMS GTE Pro Championship. He competed in the American Le Mans Series (ALMS) for Drayson Racing, a team run by Paul Drayson. Career Cocker, who was born in Cheshire, began his racing career in T Cars in 2001, aged 14. In 2003, he progressed to the Porsche Carrera Cup Great Britain, finishing fourth in the standings. He also competed in a Porsche Supercup event at Silverstone Circuit in support of the British Grand Prix. In 2004 he became the youngest driver to win the British GT Championship, aged 18. In 2005 he won the Porsche Carrera Cup Asia. In 2006, Cocker began racing an Aston Martin DBRS9 for Barwell Motorsport in the FIA GT3 European Championship and British GT Championship.
