2005–06 Northwestern State Demons Basketball Team
The 2005–06 Northwestern State Demons basketball team represented Northwestern State University during the 2005–06 NCAA Division I men's basketball season. The Demons, led by 7th year head coach Mike McConathy, played their home games at Prather Coliseum and were members of the Southland Conference. They finished the season 26–8, 15–1 in Southland play to win the regular season title. They were champions of the Southland Conference tournament, winning the championship game over Stephen F. Austin, to earn an automatic bid to the 2006 NCAA tournament. As No. 14 seed in the Atlanta region, Northwestern State knocked off No. 3 seed Iowa by draining a corner three with time running out. Mike McConathy
John Michael McConathy (born December 27, 1955) is an American former basketball coach college basketball. He served as the head men's basketball coach at Northwestern State University in Natchitoches, Louisiana from 1999 to 2022. He was raised in Bossier City and played college basketball at Louisiana Tech, earning honorable mention All-American honors. From 1983 to 1999, McConathy was the basketball coach at Bossier Parish Community College, originally an entity of the Bossier Parish School Board. He was hired as head coach at Northwestern State in March 1999. Kountze, Texas
Kountze ( ) is a city in Hardin County, Texas, United States. The population was 1,981 at the 2020 census. It is the county seat of Hardin County. The city is part of the Beaumont– Port Arthur Metropolitan Statistical Area. Kountze was originally established as a railroad town in 1881. Marksville High School is a high school located in the city of Marksville, Louisiana, United States. It is a 7th through 12th grade school with 915 students enrolled. Heflin is a village in southern Webster Parish, Louisiana, United States. The population was 245 at the 2000 census. It is part of the Minden Micropolitan Statistical Area. Oxnard College is a public community college in Oxnard, California. It was established in 1975 by the Ventura County Community College District. Boyce is a town in northern Rapides Parish, Louisiana, United States. It is part of the Alexandria, Louisiana Metropolitan Statistical Area. The population was 1,004 at the 2010 census. The community is nearly 75 percent African American. History Originally called Cotile Landing, the name was changed to Boyce in 1880, when the Texas and Pacific Railroad made Boyce its terminal point.
