2005–06 Danish Cup
The 2005–06 Danish Cup was the 52nd version of the Danish Cup. First round was played on about July 27 and the final was played on May 11. This was the first time in the tournament's modern history that the final was not played on the afternoon of the Ascension Day. This was because of a new deadline for domestic competitions, enforced by FIFA. The cup winner, Randers FC, qualified for UEFA Cup qualification. First round In first round competed 48 teams from the "series" ( Denmark's series and lower 2004) and 16 teams from Danish 2nd Division 2004-05. Second round In second round competed 32 winning teams from first round and 8 teams from Danish 1st Division 2004-05 (no. 9 to 16). Danish Cup
The Danish Cup ( da, Landspokalturneringen; often referred to as Pokalen) is the official "knockout" cup competition in Danish football, run by the Danish Football Association. The cup has been contested annually since 1955. The winner will qualify for the UEFA Europa League tournament the following year, where they (as of the 2009–10 season) will enter in the third qualifying round. The latest edition, 2017-18 Danish Cup, was won by Superliga-side Brøndby, beating Superliga-side Silkeborg 3–1 on 10 May 2018 at Parken Stadium, thereby winning their first domestic trophy since 2008. The final traditionally takes place on ''Kristi Himmelfarts Dag'' ( The Ascension) and it is always played in the Danish national stadium Parken. Aalborg Stadium (Danish: Aalborg Stadion; currently known as Aalborg Portland Park for sponsorship reasons) is a football stadium located in Aalborg, Denmark. It is the home ground of AaB. It has a capacity of 14,135 of which 8,997 is seated. For international matches the capacity is 10,500. Association football is the most popular sport in Denmark, with 331,693 players and 1,647 clubs registered () under the Danish FA. The game was introduced into Denmark by British sailors. Kjøbenhavns Boldklub is the oldest club outside of the United Kingdom, having been founded on 26 April 1876. Danish Cup Final 2006
The 2006 Danish Cup Final was the final and deciding match of the Danish Cup 2005-06. It took place on Thursday 11 May 2006 at Parken Stadium in Copenhagen and saw the 1st Division leaders Randers FC beat Superliga club Esbjerg fB after extra time. Randers have won the Cup on three previous occasions (1967, 1968 and 1973). As well as 1976, Esbjerg also won the Cup in 1964. In the Superliga in 2005-06, Esbjerg finished sixth and in Viasat Sport Division is Randers currently leading. Referee Kim Milton Nielsen officiated the match. The Esbjerg Stadium ( da, Esbjerg Stadion), known as the Blue Water Arena for sponsorship reasons, is a football stadium located within Esbjerg Idrætspark in Esbjerg, Denmark. It is the home ground of Esbjerg fB and has a capacity of 16,942, of which 11,451 is seated. It is currently the second-biggest stadium in Jutland, and the fourth-biggest in Denmark. In 1999, the stadium was venue of the football tournament at the European Youth Olympic Festival.
