Azerbaijan First Division
The Azerbaijan First League () is the second highest professional division in Azerbaijani professional football. The league is run by AFFA. The winner promotes to Premier Division. History Due to the dissolution of the Soviet Union, all Azerbaijan clubs of the former Soviet Premier Division and Soviet First Division conformed a single Azerbaijan Premier League, which meant that the new second tier of Azerbaijan football would remain regionalized. For the first two seasons three regional groups conformed the second tier, until in 1994 the single table in use today began to be used. Competition format The First League currently consists of 10 teams. All teams play each other three times. Neftçi PFK
Neftçi Peşəkar Futbol Klubu, known simply as Neftçi () or Neftchi Baku, is an Azerbaijani professional association football, football club based in the capital Baku, that plays in the Azerbaijan Premier League, the highest tier of Football in Azerbaijan, Azerbaijan football. The club was founded on 18 March 1937 and played under the name of Neftyanik until 1968. Since then, the club has been competing under the name of Neftçi. Neftçi played for a total of 27 seasons in the Soviet Top League, Top Division of Soviet football. The main achievement of that period is the bronze medals of the USSR Championship won in 1966 Soviet Top League, 1966. Neftçi has won nine Azerbaijan Premier League titles, six Azerbaijan Cups and two Azerbaijan Supercup titles. 2006–07 Azerbaijan Top League
2006–07 Azerbaijan Premier League was the fifteenth season of top-tier football in Azerbaijan. The season started with 14 teams, but ended with 13 after FK Gäncä were excluded. FK Baku were the defending champions with the season began on 5 August 2006 and ended on 23 May 2007. At the end of the season the league was dissolved and replaced by the Azerbaijan Premier League. Teams MOIK Baku and FK Göyazan Qazax, Göyazan Qazax were relegated after finishing 2005–06 Azerbaijan Top League, the previous season in 13th and 14th place. They were replaced by Gabala FC, Gilan Qäbälä and Simurq PIK, Simurq Zaqatala from the Azerbaijan First Division. Stadia and locations 1Karabakh played their home matches at Surakhani Stadium in Baku before moving to their current stadium on 3 May 2009. Sharur FK (Baku)
Sharur ( ) is a city in the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic of Azerbaijan. It is the administrative centre of the Sharur District. The city is located 66 km northwest of Nakhchivan (city), Nakhchivan city, on the Sharur plain. History In a manuscript of the 16th-century Oghuz Turks, Oghuz heroic epic ''Book of Dede Korkut'' stored in Dresden, the place ''Sheryuguz'' is mentioned, which, according to a Russian orientalist and historian Vasily Bartold, is a distorted form of Sharur. In the Russian Empire, the town was the administrative centre of the Sharur-Daralayaz uezd of the Erivan Governorate and was known as ''Bash-Norashen''. In 1948, the city received the status of an urban-type settlement, and on 26 May 1964, it was renamed from ''Norashen'' to ''Ilyichevsk'', after Vladimir Ilyich Lenin.
