2005 Presidents Cup
The 2005 Presidents Cup was held between September 22 and 25, 2005. It was played at the Robert Trent Jones Golf Club in Gainesville, Virginia, United States. The United States team won the competition by a margin of 18–15. The honorary chairmen was former President of the United States George H. W. Bush. Format Both teams had 12 players plus a non-playing captain. The competition was four days long with 34 total matches worth a single point each. Although the number and type of matches played was the same as in previous events, the schedule was slightly altered. Six foursome matches were played on the first day and six four-ball matches were played on the second. On the third day, five four-ball matches were played in the morning and five foursome matches were played in the afternoon. The competition concluded with twelve singles matches on the final day. Robert Trent Jones Golf Club
Robert Trent Jones Golf Club (RTJ) is a private golf club located in Gainesville, Virginia, a suburb southwest of Washington D.C. Opened for play in 1991, the par 72 course plays between . Founding and premises RTJ was founded by the legendary golf course designer Robert Trent Jones "while conducting an aerial site survey for another project," and it was designed by him, too. Located about from downtown Washington D.C., the course is on Lake Manassas, an reservoir. Jones is to have said "the terrain is aesthetically perfect...I don't think we could have done anything better anywhere," and he has created legendary courses Spyglass Hill, Firestone Country Club, Bellerive Country Club, and Congressional Country Club. Nick O'Hern
Nicholas Simon O'Hern (born 18 October 1971) is an Australian professional golfer. O'Hern has played on both of the world's premier professional golf tours, the European Tour, and the United States-based PGA Tour. His biggest successes though, have come at home on the PGA Tour of Australasia, where he won the Order of Merit as the leading money winner in 2006. Peter Lonard
Peter Lawrence Lonard (born 17 July 1967) is an Australian professional golfer who has played mainly on the U.S.-based PGA Tour. Early life Lonard was born at Epping, Sydney. Professional career Lonard turned professional in 1989 and began his career on the PGA Tour of Australasia. He played on the European Tour in 1991 and 1992, where he had very moderate results. He was sidelined for nearly 18 months in 1993–94 after contracting Ross River Fever, a mosquito-carried virus which caused damage to his eyes. Trevor John Immelman (born 16 December 1979) is a South African professional golfer who has played on the PGA Tour, European Tour and Sunshine Tour. Mark Hensby
Mark Adam Hensby (born 29 June 1971) is an Australian professional golfer. Hensby was born in Melbourne, Victoria. He grew up in Tamworth, New South Wales and attended Tamworth High School, leaving at the age of 16 to work as a postie while spending most of his time on the golf course.
