2005 Men's EuroHockey Nations Challenge II
The 2005 Men's EuroHockey Nations Challenge II was the first edition of the EuroHockey Nations Challenge II, the fourth level of the men's European field hockey championships organized by the European Hockey Federation. It was held from 5 to 10 September 2005 in Kordin, Paola, Malta. Paola, Malta
Paola ( mt, Raħal Ġdid, it, Casal Nuovo, both meaning "New Town") is a town in the South Eastern Region of Malta, with 8,706 inhabitants as of 2019. The town is a commercial centre in the Southern Harbour area of Malta, about 5 km from the capital Valletta, contiguous to Tarxien and Fgura, with which it forms a single urban area. Paola is named after Grand Master Antoine de Paule, who laid the foundation stone in 1626. Paola is renowned for the Ħal Saflieni Hypogeum, the Basilica of Christ the King (the largest church in the Maltese Islands), Antoine de Paule Square and its shopping centres, the Good Friday procession, and its football club, Hibernians FC. The Mariam Al-Batool Mosque, the only mosque in Malta, as well as an Islamic Cultural Centre are found in Paola. EuroHockey Championship IV
The EuroHockey Championship IV, formerly known as the EuroHockey Nations Challenge II, is a competition for European national field hockey teams. It is the fourth level of the European field hockey Championships for national teams. For men's national teams this is the lowest tier. There is promotion and relegation. The one or two first ranked teams qualify for the next Men's EuroHockey Championship III and are replaced by the one or two lowest-ranked teams from that tournament. The tournament has been won by seven different teams: Gibraltar has the most titles with two and Denmark, Greece, Hungary, Slovakia, Slovenia and Turkey have all won the tournament once. The most recent edition was held in Helsinki, Finland and was won by Hungary. The next edition was supposed to be held in Kordin, Malta in August 2021 but was cancelled due to the travel restrictions related to the COVID-19 pandemic. Field Hockey
Field hockey is a team sport structured in standard hockey format, in which each team plays with ten outfield players and a goalkeeper. Teams must drive a round hockey ball by hitting it with a hockey stick towards the rival team's shooting circle and then into the goal. The match is won by the team that scores the most goals. Matches are played on grass, watered turf, artificial turf, synthetic field, or indoor boarded surface. The stick is made of wood, carbon fibre, fibreglass, or a combination of carbon fibre and fibreglass in different quantities. The stick has two sides; one rounded and one flat; only the flat face of the stick is allowed to progress the ball. During play, goalkeepers are the only players allowed to touch the ball with any part of their body. A player's hand is considered part of the stick if holding the stick. The European Hockey Federation is a European sports federation for field hockey, based in Brussels. It is the umbrella organisation for all European national federations, and organises the Euro Hockey League. Marijke Fleuren was elected president on 22 August 2011. Denmark Men's National Field Hockey Team
The Denmark men's national field hockey team represents Denmark in men's international field hockey and is controlled by the Danish Hockey Union, the governing body for field hockey in Denmark. Denmark has participated in five Olympic Games and has won one silver medal, in 1920. They have never qualified for the World Cup, but they have participated in two European Championships. The 2007 Men's EuroHockey Nations Challenge I was the 2nd edition of the EuroHockey Nations Challenge I, the third level of the European field hockey championships organized by the European Hockey Federation. Azerbaijan Men's National Field Hockey Team
The Azerbaijan men's national field hockey team represents Azerbaijan in international men's field hockey and is controlled by the Azerbaijan Field Hockey Federation, the governing body for field hockey in Azerbaijan.
