As of 2012, there are 10 nationwide and 21 regional DVB-T (Digital Video Broadcasting – Terrestrial) television channels, and there are more than 30 other channels either produced in the Republic of Croatia or produced for the Croatian market and broadcast via IPTV (Internet Protocol television), cable television, cable, or satellite television. The electronic communications market in Croatia is regulated by the Croatian Regulatory Authority for Network Industries (HAKOM), which issues broadcast licenses and monitors the market. The DVB-T and satellite transmission infrastructure is developed and maintained by the state-owned company Odašiljači i veze (OiV). The first television signal broadcast in Croatia occurred in 1939 during the Zagreb Fair, where Philips showcased its television system. Patrick Jurdić
Patrick Jurdić (''also known as'' Patrick Jurdič & Patrick Jurdic) (born 14 December 1985 in Vienna, Austria) is an Austro-Croatian singer who rose to popularity after winning '' Hrvatski Idol 2'', the Croatian version of ''Pop Idol'', shown by Nova TV. Additionally, he also took part in Austria's casting show Starmania and reached the top-12. One of the songs from his album "Reci Da Si Za", called "The Party", written by Gordon Pogoda, Johnny Elkins, Cutfather & Joe, was released as a single and video. Patrick was the second only Idol to previously appear on another Idol series' performance show, he reached the Top 40 of Česko hledá SuperStar singing Robbie Williams' song "Angels" (incidentally he sang this song again on the night of his Hrvatski Idol victory), he was also criticised for not being fluent in Czech and was told to read a list of terms such as Strč prst skrz krk. Big Brother 2 (Croatia)
''Big Brother 2'' is the second season of the Croatian reality television series '' Big Brother'' that premiered on 4 September to 30 December 2005, and ran for 118 days. Season summary The second season had radical changes in the format of the show — the number of contestants was initially raised from 12 to 14; the pace of evictions and nominations was accelerated, and numbers of contestants were introduced at later stages. The composition of contestants was different—they were much younger, less educated and generally perceived to be less mature. They also tended to represent various sections of the Croatian population, missing in the previous season. This was most evident with Matko Okmažić from Omiš, the 25-year-old son of the restaurant owner, later revealed to be the candidate of far-right parties at local elections. Big Brother (Croatian TV Series)
''Big Brother'' is the Croatian version of the international reality television franchise ''Big Brother'' created by producer John de Mol in 1997. The show was aired on RTL Televizija. It followed a number of contestants who live in an isolated house trying to avoid being evicted by the public with the aim of winning a large cash prize at the end of the run. Throughout the season, housemates are completing tasks, every incomplete task reduces the prize. In the first four regular seasons and the celebrity season, the house was located in Jadran Film studios, in Dubrava, Zagreb. In the fifth season, the house used is the '' Big Brother Thailand'' house. There have been seven regular seasons and one celebrity season. ''Big Brother'' holds the record for having the most regular seasons with only male contestants winning the show each year (although the celebrity edition was won by a woman). ''Zabranjena ljubav'' ( lit. "Forbidden Love", commonly abbreviated to ZLJ) is a Croatian daytime soap opera about the lives and loves of both young and older characters, focused on Zagreb, capital city of Croatia. Actors Mario Valentić, Antonija Šola, Nada Rocco, Dejan Marcikić and Anita Berisha (last one with some months of break) were the only remaining original cast members until the final episode. About show The soap tackles controversial issues, such as incest, rape, homosexuality, adultery, and deadly diseases. The viewers of this soap are varied, ranging from small children to senior citizens.
