2005 Formula Renault 2.0 Italia was the sixth season of the Italian Formula Renault Championship and the first under the name "Formula Renault 2.0 Italy." Most races were in Italy with one race at the Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps (Belgium). Kamui Kobayashi, who went on to drive in Formula One, won the competition. Jenzer Motorsport won the team competition. Atte Mustonen won the Winter Series, an off-season championship. Formula Renault 2.0 Italia was a Formula Renault 2.0 racing series that is based in Italy. The series raced mostly on Italian races but it had regular races at Belgium's Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps and in Spain. Several Formula One drivers raced in this series, including Felipe Massa, Kamui Kobayashi, Robert Kubica and Pastor Maldonado. Prema Powerteam (competing as Prema Racing in the FIA Formula 2 Championship, the FIA Formula 3 Championship and European Le Mans Series and as Prema Orlen Team in the FIA World Endurance Championship) is a motorsport team from Italy. ACI Vallelunga Circuit
The Autodromo Vallelunga Piero Taruffi is a racing circuit situated north of Rome, Italy, near Vallelunga of Campagnano. Vallelunga was built as a sand oval in 1951. From 1963 the circuit held the Rome Grand Prix, and in 1967 a new loop was added when the track became the property of the Automobile Club d'Italia (ACI). Further refurbishment was undertaken in 1971. The track is named for the famous Italian racing driver Piero Taruffi. In August 2004 work started on a extension to the track, bringing the track up to its current length. The new configuration has received homologation from the FIA as a test circuit, being used by various Formula One teams. The circuit has also hosted the 6 Hours of Vallelunga endurance event.
