2005 Florida State Seminoles Football Team
The 2005 Florida State Seminoles football team represented Florida State University during the 2005 NCAA Division I-A football season. The team was coached by Bobby Bowden and played their home games at Doak Campbell Stadium in Tallahassee, Florida. They were members of the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) and competed in the Atlantic Division. The Seminoles won their division and competed in the ACC title game, defeating Virginia Tech in the inaugural championship game. Bobby Bowden
Robert Cleckler Bowden (; November 8, 1929 – August 8, 2021) was an American college football coach. Bowden coached the Florida State Seminoles of Florida State University (FSU) from 1976 to 2009 and is considered one of the greatest college football coaches of all time for his accomplishments with the Seminoles. During his time at Florida State, Bowden led FSU to an Associated Press and Coaches Poll National Title in 1993 and a BCS National Championship in 1999, as well as twelve Atlantic Coast Conference championships once FSU joined the conference in 1991. Bowden's Seminoles finished as an AP top-5 team for 14 consecutive seasons, setting a record which doubled the closest program. However, the program weakened during the mid-2000s, and after a difficult 2009 season Bowden was fired by President T.K. Wetherell, just weeks after his 80th birthday. Callahan Bright
Callahan Bright (born January 16, 1987) is a former high school football star. His career derailed during college. After one season at Division II Shaw University, Bright entered the 2010 NFL Draft but was not selected. He had brief stints with various Arena Football League teams, now playing for the Wichita Wild. Early life A native of Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania, in the Delaware Valley, Bright graduated from Welsh Valley Middle School, and then attended Glen Mills School in Thornbury for two years, a school for court-adjudicated youths. Bright said he was sent there because of “behavioral problems.” As a junior, he transferred to Harriton High School in Rosemont, Pennsylvania, where he was an All-American defensive lineman, while also playing lacrosse and wrestling in the unlimited division at several freestyle tournaments. The Florida State–Miami football rivalry is an American college football rivalry between the Florida State Seminoles football team of Florida State University and Miami Hurricanes football team of the University of Miami. Since the late 1980s, one or both squads have been highly ranked entering the game, adding national championship implications to an already heated rivalry. The 2005 Miami Hurricanes football team represented the University of Miami during the 2005 NCAA Division I-A football season. It was the Hurricanes' 80th season of football and 2nd as a member of the Atlantic Coast Conference. Antone Smith (born September 17, 1985) is a former American football running back. He played high school football for Pahokee. Smith was considered an All American 5 star running back and was named Mr.Florida. He went on to play college football at Florida State. Smith was signed by the Detroit Lions as an undrafted free agent in 2009. Eugene Antonio "Geno" Hayes (August 10, 1987 – April 26, 2021) was an American professional football player who was a linebacker in the National Football League (NFL). After playing college football for the Florida State Seminoles, he was selected by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the sixth round of the 2008 NFL Draft. Letroy Shelton Guion Jr. (pronounced ; born June 21, 1987) is a former American football defensive tackle. He played college football at Florida State. Guion was drafted by the Minnesota Vikings in the fifth round of the 2008 NFL Draft. Guion also played for the Green Bay Packers.
