2005 Décastar
The 29th edition of the annual Décastar took place on 17 September and 18 September 2005 in Talence, France. The track and field competition, featuring a decathlon (men) and a heptathlon (women) event, was part of the 2005 IAAF World Combined Events Challenge. Décastar
Décastar (stylised ''DECASTAR'') is an annual athletics competition that takes place in Talence, in the department of the Gironde in France. Organised by World Athletics, it is one of the athletics meetings that make up the World Athletics Challenge – Combined Events. Male and female athletes compete in the decathlon or heptathlon, respectively, and points scored at the Décastar count towards a yearly total for the parent competition. History The Décastar competition was first established in 1976 and, after further editions in 1978 and 1984, it was held annually from 1986 onwards. Karin Nathalie Ruckstuhl (born 2 November 1980 in Baden, Switzerland) is a Dutch heptathlete. Biography Her first major championship was the 2002 European Athletics Championships, and she finished 13th in the heptathlon. She came close to the podium at the 2004 IAAF World Indoor Championships, finishing fourth, and took part in her first Olympics at the 2004 Athens Games, where she was 16th in the final rankings with a national record of 6108 points. She again just fell short of the podium with a fourth place at the 2005 European Athletics Indoor Championships and was eighth outdoors at the 2005 World Championships in Athletics later that season. Virginia "Gi-Gi" Miller-Johnson (born January 12, 1979, in Huntsville, Alabama) is a world-class heptathlete and former US champion. Collegiate career Competing for the Arkansas Lady Razorbacks in 2000 and 2001, Miller set school records in the 100-meter hurdles, high jump, shot put, 200-meters, 800-meters, long jump and heptathlon. In her first season, Miller finished 2nd in the heptathlon at the 2000 NCAA Outdoor Championships. During her second college season, Miller won the triple jump at the 2001 NCAA Indoor Championships That same year, she won the heptathlon at the Southeastern Conference Outdoor Championships. Nataliya Dobrynska ( uk, Наталія Добринська; born 29 May 1982) is a retired Ukrainian heptathlete. She is the 2008 Olympic champion and also holds the heptathlon best in the shot put. Her indoor pentathlon best of 5013 points is the world record for the event. Career She competed in the 2004 Olympics, finishing eighth. She won the silver medal in the pentathlon at the 2004 World Indoor Championships and the bronze medal at the 2005 European Indoor Championships. Lyudmyla Leonidivna Blonska, née Shevchuk ( uk, Людмила Леонідівна Блонська (Шевчук)), sometimes known as Lyudmila Blonskaya, (born November 9, 1977) is a Ukrainian former heptathlete, pentathlete, and long jumper. She was given a lifetime ban from competition after failing a drug test at the 2008 Summer Olympics, her second doping offense. Personal life Blonska was born as Lyudmyla Leonidivna Shevchuk on 9 November 1977 in Simferopol, Crimea, Ukrainian SSR. In 2000, she graduated from the Kharkiv Institute as a trainer and teacher of physical culture. She then moved to Brovary with fellow athlete Serhiy Blonskyy, whom she married. Kelly Sotherton
Kelly Jade Sotherton (born 13 November 1976) is a British former heptathlete, long jumper and relay runner. In the heptathlon she was the bronze medallist at the 2004 Summer Olympics and, following the disqualification of two other athletes, also at the 2008 Summer Olympics, as well as being part of the bronze medal-winning team in the Women's 4x400m relay at the 2008 Summer Olympics (again, initially finishing 5th but upgraded after various subsequent doping disqualifications). Eunice Barber (born November 17, 1974 in Freetown, Sierra Leone) is a Sierra Leonean Athletics (sport), athlete competing in heptathlon and long jump. Barber initially competed for Sierra Leone and then for France from 1999 onwards. She won the heptathlon at the World Athletics Championships in 1999, the long jump in 2003 and finished second in heptathlon in 2003 and 2005.
