2005 Carolina Panthers Season
The 2005 season was the Carolina Panthers' 11th in the National Football League (NFL) and their fourth under head coach John Fox. It was also the team's ninth season at Bank of America Stadium. They improved on their 7–9 record from 2004, going 11–5, and made it to the playoffs for the first time since their Super Bowl appearance in 2003. NFC South
The National Football Conference – Southern Division or NFC South is one of the four Division (sport), divisions of the National Football Conference (NFC) in the National Football League (NFL). It was created prior to the 2002 NFL season, when the league realigned divisions after expanding to 32 teams. The NFC South currently has four member clubs: the Atlanta Falcons, Carolina Panthers, New Orleans Saints, and Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The 2004 Carolina Panthers season was the franchise's 10th season in the National Football League and the 3rd under head coach John Fox. It was also the team's 8th season at Bank of America Stadium. They failed to improve upon their record in 2003, a year when they finished the regular season 11–5 and ultimately fell 29–32 in Super Bowl XXXVIII to the New England Patriots and they finished 7–9. Their collapse to a 1–7 record start was because of key injuries to their starters including wide receiver Steve Smith Sr., through the first eight games. Defensive Tackle
A defensive tackle (DT) is a position in American football that will typically line up on the line of scrimmage, opposite one of the offensive guards, however he may also line up opposite one of the tackles. Defensive tackles are typically the largest and strongest of the defensive players. Depending on a team's individual defensive scheme, a defensive tackle may be called upon to fill several different roles. These roles may include merely holding the point of attack by refusing to be moved, or penetrating a certain gap between offensive linemen to break up a play in the opponent's backfield. If a defensive tackle reads a pass play, his primary responsibility is to pursue the quarterback, or simply knock the pass down at the line if it is within arm's reach. Atiyyah Ellison
Atiyyah Ramadan Ellison h-TEE-ah(born September 29, 1981) is a former American football defensive lineman. He was drafted by the Carolina Panthers in the third round of the 2005 NFL Draft. He played college football at Missouri. Ellison has also been a member of the Houston Texans, Baltimore Ravens, San Francisco 49ers, Jacksonville Jaguars, Kansas City Chiefs, and New England Patriots. 2004 Alabama Crimson Tide Football Team
The 2004 Alabama Crimson Tide football team represented the University of Alabama during the 2004 NCAA Division I-A football season. This was the team's 72nd season in the SEC. The Crimson Tide were led by head coach Mike Shula who was entering his second season as head coach. They began their season with trying to improve from a 4–9 (2–6) record from the 2003 season. The 2004 squad finished the season with a record of 6–6 following a loss to Minnesota in the Music City Bowl. The team began the 2004 season at 3–0 with blowout victories over Utah State, Mississippi, and Western Carolina. Evan Bradley Mathis (born November 1, 1981) is an American former professional football player who was a offensive guard in the National Football League (NFL). He played college football for the Alabama Crimson Tide, and was selected by the Carolina Panthers in the third round of the 2005 NFL Draft. Mathis has also played for the Miami Dolphins, Cincinnati Bengals, Philadelphia Eagles and Denver Broncos. Eric Shelton (American Football)
Eric Shelton (born June 23, 1983) is a former American football running back. He was drafted by the Carolina Panthers in the second round of the 2005 NFL Draft. He played college football at Louisville. Shelton has also been a member of the Washington Redskins. Early years Shelton attended Bryan Station High School in Lexington, Kentucky, where he played both running back and linebacker and twice earned state Class 4A Player of the Year honors.
